Story
The first story Selma Blair Beitner ever heard about herself is that she was a mean, mean baby. With her mouth pulled in a perpetual snarl and a head so furry it had to be rubbed to make way for her forehead, Selma spent years living up to her terrible reputation: biting her sisters, lying spontaneously, getting drunk from Passover wine at the age of seven, and behaving dramatically so that she would be the center of attention. In a memoir that is as wildly funny as it is emotionally shattering, Blair tells the captivating story of growing up and finding her truth.

Story
The year 2020 was going to be the best year of Stassi’s life. Besides getting engaged and feeling like she was on top of the world career-wise, she bought her first house and was planning her dream Italian wedding. The future showed so much freaking promise—until it all went to hell. Stassi may not be perfect—she may have made some (major) mistakes—but she does feel like she has some insight (and plenty of hilarious tales) about getting knocked up, called out, and learning from what went wrong.

If there is one thing Lincee Ray has learned over the years, it's that the majority of women on the planet struggle with insecurities. Our skinny jeans mock us. Our just-trying-to-help mothers are just driving us crazy. Our social media feeds taunt us with everyone else's picture-perfect lives. It's enough to send you on a gummy-bear bender while binge-watching Friends reruns and not showering for a week. Lincee knows. She's been there. Right there, in fact. Gummy bears and all.

What could possibly be “lucky” about addiction? Absolutely nothing, thought Laura McKowen when drinking brought her to her knees. As she puts it, she “kicked and screamed . . . wishing for something - anything - else” to be her issue. The people who got to drink normally, she thought, were so damn lucky. But in the midst of early sobriety, when no longer able to anesthetize her pain and anxiety, she realized that she was actually the lucky one. Lucky to feel her feelings, live honestly, really be with her daughter, change her legacy.

Los Angeles in 1967 was deeply segregated, and her mother—a Chicana hospital administrator who presented as white, had kept her affair with Michelle’s father, Dr. Ross Miller, a married trauma surgeon and Compton’s first Black city councilman—hidden, along with the unplanned pregnancy. Raised largely by her father and her paternal grandmother, Michelle had no knowledge of the woman whose genes she shared. Then, fate intervened when Michelle was twenty-two. After all, a substantial number of decisions that we make in our everyday lives are quietly rooted in this one question: If something happened before, will it happen again? Is there such a thing as being in the zone? Can someone have a "hot hand"? Or is it simply a case of seeing patterns in randomness? Or, if streaks are possible, where can they be found?

The audio is Jaceys voice which I didn’t mind but might not be everyone’s cup of tea. It feels like she is sharing the BTS of influencer life and I was very surprised by her journey. Wow. Just wow! ❤️
Jacey…I have followed you for years and have admired your style, sense of humor, and most importantly your love and devotion to your family.
I have celebrated with you, and cried for you over the loss for your sweet pups. I’ve admired the tactful way you creating boundaries for yourself and your family (we, as readers should respect that!).
And now you’ve opened yourself up and have made yourself even more relatable. I think anyone reading (or listening) to your book will walk away feeling common ground with you, and will learn from you. You are wise beyond your years. ❤️
Thank you for being brave enough to share your story.

Jacey Demystifies the True Cost of Being an Influencer
Jacey brings you along for a front seat ride of what it is like being an influencer as well a peek behind the curtain of her personal life. She is incredibly brave in her raw honesty of the blogging industry and is clearly grateful for her own success. Her writing is humbling in how she structures her life’s journey, her rediscovery of herself and taking ownership of her individuality. Many of the themes and problems she is candid about are relatable and despite the vapidness that came come off with the blogging industry is incredibly redeeming. Her tenacity is impressive. Her journey of solving certain behaviors and pain she has experienced in her life to better herself will resound with an audience far and wide.

LOVE IT
Absolutely loved this book by Jacey. I could have easily listened to another 10+ chapters. Great to hear more of a raw perspective from an influcer vs the glossed picture perfect versions we see on social media. An overall good story about self growth and struggles everyone can relate to.

Audio is read like a bad MOH speech
Oooof. I don’t leave these kinds of reviews. I’ve followed Jacey for years and was excited to she accomplished writing this. Although I get where she was trying to go with this book, the tone and delivery is just…off? I usually love listening to audiobooks by the author, but it’s read like a bad MOH speech. It didn’t feel authentic to me & I just couldn’t get through it. I didn’t find it deep or encouraging.
I also don’t hate on people who own designer things (I myself do) but every mention of “I kicked off my Prada flats” made me rollllll my eyes. I get it - designer didn’t mean happiness, but….ehhhhh.
