The New York Times best-selling author of the Nightside series, Simon R. Green has won widespread acclaim and an immense following for his Secret Histories novels featuring Eddie “Shaman Bond” Drood. Drood and let Listen

Sorry about that chief!
I really enjoy listening to this series. I'm a fan of Mr. Green and I think this series is the best so far.
The banter between Molly and Eddie is enjoyable but sometimes its a little adolescent (one love and all that delusion).

Even though it gets kind of irritating, I would still buy the next audible book.

Thanks for making my evenings more enjoyable and light hearted!

My Favorite Drood Tale

I listened to this one straight through. The narration was outstanding. I liked this because it was more plot centric rather than non-stop random violence. Without giving anything away, Molly has become less edgy (more of a wuss) and didn't respond the way I would have expected based on a major revelation. Her sisters were also a bit more forgiving than I would have thought. I downgraded the story to a four because of that. I still enjoyed the whole experience and look forward to the next one.

A villain should have some redeeming qualities

For a story that begins with the destruction of the Drood stronghold, this was a tamer revenge tale than
I expected. Oh sure, by now I’m prepared for the all-powerful Eddie and his all-powerful witchy girlfriend. I just figured that with a villain identified early, there’d be more tete-a-tetes between Crow Lee and Eddie. I was also disappointed at this villain being a one-note, beyond evil caricature. And even with Crow Lee providing a welcome change from most of this author’s books, where the bad guy is faceless and merely appears in a final chapter to throw out a few scraps of dialogue, the author remains a spotted Leopard, revealing and dispensing with the original traitor in short order.

There were fun bits, including the domestic banter of the now devoted power couple that is Eddie and Molly. I had a fun time with Eddie’s Torc. The sentient cars are fun too.

But, the seemingly limitless rogue Droods and time/dimension traveling plot cheats means this felt like a recycled formula during a mid-series slump.

Fun book, great narrator

Gideon Emery narrating the last few books elevates what could be a fun, campy story into something a bit more, conveying the deep felt emotions Eddie feels for his family despite his as equally felt disappointments, fears, resentments and angers. Emery convey the mix of bantering humor and deadly seriousness that captures most of the book and definitely Eddie and Molly's relationship. And he's just so darn great to listen too. He's the main reason I keep splurging on the audiobooks, and probably the reason I think this series is pretty good instead of pretty silly. I wish the author would stick to a story line a bit more instead of showing off how many crazy creatures he can come up with and feature in every book without bothering to make them a part of the action. But I do enjoy this series more than the Nightside at this, it has more humor and forward momentum and less of the annoying tendency to treat the book like a museum of oddities.

Another good installment of as the Droods turn

On the whole I enjoyed the book. It wasnt quite as good as the other books in the secret histories. I felt there were some gaps in the story but it was still well worth the listen and I am looking forward to Eddies New Job!

Weird. . .

I liked this book. Having said that, the end is kind of a cop out. You can see what's coming fairly early on. It sets up the next few books in the series. The Regent is a pretty awesome character. Emery did his usual job. His Molly cracks me up.

Another book that I wish didn't end...

Any additional comments?

I love the books that make me curse them for ending too soon and wishing for another right away. This...is one of those books.
