About this listen
Every family has its secrets.
One hot August morning in 1892, Lizzie Borden picked up an axe and murdered her father and stepmother. Newspapers claim she did it for the oldest of reasons: family conflicts, jealousy, and greed. But what if her parents were already dead? What if Lizzie slaughtered them because they’d become...zombies?
Thrust into a horrific world where the walking dead are part of a shocking conspiracy to infect not only Fall River, Massachusetts, but also the world beyond, Lizzie battles to protect her sister, Emma, and her hometown from nightmarish ghouls and the evil forces controlling them.

Story
When Anne's mother agrees to marry a wealthy, mysterious man, she expects a nice mansion in the hills. But their new home, Belrose Abbey, is more like a castle - imposing, cold, and full of shadows. The more Anne explores the corridors and vacant rooms and dusty crannies, the more she discovers about the abbey's master - her soon-to-be stepfather - Ivan Helsburg. As her mother's wedding draws closer, Anne begins to harbor a creeping suspicion that all is not well at Belrose Abbey.

Very expressive and immersive
The different character voices and emotion carried through this story by Brennan really brought it to life. It was my first time listening to a book with zombies and it delivered everything i was looking for. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a fun and dark tale with plenty of action!

What if all you knew about Lizzie was wrong?
When I saw the opportunity of reviewing this audio book, I really couldn’t skip it, it tells the story of Lizzie Borden and adapts it to the line of though of if it was zombies, there's already lots of history books about Lizzie, and how she was acquitted, but there’s no real way of learning the true story of what happened, in here she was a hero, ending the “death” of her father and stepmother, and then she learns the “truth” of what is happening all around her, yeah she goes from normal woman to kind of a Buffy Summers.
I did enjoy very much this audio book, the person reading did her best to make all the different voices and that helps in the immersion in the story, also the way the story is written keeps us on our toes to know what will happen next, there's also questioning that brings us back to the real case of Lizzie Borden, as a kind of introduction of the chapters.
I really recommend this audio book, even if you don’t care very much for zombies, but do enjoy reading books about true crime, try this one, see for yourself if this doesn’t make sense.
Thank you StoryOrigin for the free Audible AAC and this is my honest opinion.

Verstraete reimagines a cornerstone of true crime
This is a very good and well written story. The narration is very clean and professional. This type of horror, is more fun than my usual cup of tea. So any complaints I have would be personal preference and not a reflection of the story. And even though I feel the audience for this is younger, I still found the descriptions of violence to be jarring and gruesome. This one is sure to please any fans of the genre.
