Publisher's summary

Hunter, trapper, resourceful fighter, and scout, Hugh Glass was just a rugged man among other rugged American frontiersmen until he was mauled by a grizzly bear and left for dead by his best friends. Hugh's rage drove him to crawl 200 miles across dangerous territory to seek revenge until he was no longer Hugh Glass but had become Lord Grizzly.

Classic

This is a classic tale about Hugh Glass. I read it many years ago and was happy to come across it in this platform. The narrator does a great job.

A nearly unbelievable ordeal.

Overall a good story but seems to me to be a bit over done. There were a few things the author got wrong, like buck deer fighting standing up and using their fore hooves. That's how does fight. Bucks use their antlers against each other and other enemies. I don't mean to be overly critical, the author has a talent I admire and would love to have. That must have been a brutal time to live.

warning to parents!

full of the N-Word and negative views of Native Americans and women. Before anyone wants to accuse me of anything, I know darn well the time period of this story, as well as the 1950's it was written in. Still, I am grateful for not choosing this for a long road trip with the kids. The words made me sad and uncomfortable and I would never expose my children to this, "historical" or not. The story was interesting, but I enjoyed The Revenant much more.
