La intención del autor es recuperar la parte femenina que ha quedado diluida en la historia de un país fundamentalmente masculino, donde la herencia azteca, árabe y española la ha marginado del acontecer histórico.

Liked: the characters are very real, fallible, inconsistent, human. If I figured out the main message of the book, then I liked it, but I’m not really sure I did.
Disliked: sometimes I didn’t like the characters, there was too much political discussion that at the same time lacked depth or a connection to the reader, and it lost my interest many times. I didn’t ever feel like I really cared what happened to the main character.

I've read this book in 1999 after going to its presentation by Carlos Fuentes in L.A. when I was a sophomore in high school. I loved the book then, but now that I have just listened to it again I have a better understanding of the story and the characters and I can honestly say that I love it even more. The book captivated my attention and I truly enjoy all of its colorful characters.

I fell in love with this book and its characters all over again.
