About this listen

Modern science and high technology come up against deeply rooted Native American cultures and ancient rituals in this Zack Tolliver, FBI, story, where the Goblin rocks and barren flats of Joshua Tree National Park surround the rugged Eagle Mountains.

A world-class scientist goes missing while consulting on a high-stakes project, the construction of an electric storage battery in the deserted pits of the old Kaiser Iron mines. Did this eccentric world-renown hydrologist simply wander off? Or was his fate more ominous?

FBI Supervisory Agent Janice Hooper assigns Zack Tolliver, FBI, to the investigation. When someone plants a bomb in his Jeep the day he arrives, Zack realizes there is more at stake than anyone knew. Soon, he finds himself in a desperate duel with an unknown assassin who may very well be more than his match.

Thrilling story! Best yet!

Lost Oasis is a high intensity read filled with nefarious characters, absorbing vistas, cold-blooded killers and ancient rituals – it’s a thrill-a-minute ride. It is filled with all the ingredients of a first-class mystery and what an ending! In my opinion it is the best one in this terrific series so far!

R. Lawson Gamble's latest is terrific!

The Zack Tolliver series just keeps getting better and better --
Listening to Lost Oasis I settled happily into the usual fun fare: great story telling, a mix of native American cultural traditions, greed of high-tech America, lyrical desert descriptions travel guides would salivate over, scary plot peeling away layers of human complication, same charming pair of protagonists in Zack, FBI special agent, and Navajo sidekick Eagle Feather, spouting side-splitting repartee in the midst of the most spine-chilling circumstances.
And now two intriguing new characters -- maybe they'll hang around awhile? -- Zack's super cool boss produces her doppel-ganger young niece to help the investigation and a not-so-nice traditional Cheurehuevi runner appears who promises a future return visit and is everywhere at once -- really? Is there a native American tradition of runners whose thoughts and physical running abilities meld into superhuman capabilities? I'm thinking the author will continue to keep his particular blend of well-researched fact and imaginative fiction pretty close to the vest.
I thought Mr. Jack's narration was the perfect, nuanced partner to this story telling.
All in all, a great listen!

Another involving caper!

I always enjoy Mr. Jack's performance. I've listened to many of his books, and he always seems to get it just right....
