About this listen
The hunters noticed the circling birds against the rose-tinted sky above the rim rock and saw where the flat rays of the early morning sun glinted on something that didn't belong there, and the three of them walked that way. What they find sends FBI agent Zack Tolliver and his friend Eagle Feather in pursuit of a dangerous and powerful killer.

Story
Cody Hoyt, while a brilliant cop, is an alcoholic struggling with two months of sobriety when his mentor and AA sponsor Hank Winters is found burned to death in a remote mountain cabin. At first it looks like the suicide of a man who's fallen off the wagon, but Cody knows Hank better than that. Sober for fourteen years, Hank took pride in his hard-won sobriety and never hesitated to drop whatever he was doing to talk Cody off a ledge. When Cody takes a closer look at the scene of his friend's death, it becomes apparent that foul play is at hand.

Story
Alan Gregory is a clinical psychologist with a thriving practice in Boulder, Colorado. His life begins to unravel when one of his female patients is found in an apparent suicide and the local paper begins printing accusations from an unnamed source of sexual impropriety between the woman and Dr. Gregory. He launches a psychological and personal quest for the truth that rapidly intensifies when more of his patients die untimely deaths, and Gregory suspects not only that the deaths are related but that another one of his patients may be somehow involved. Lacking facts but roused by suspicion and troubled by seemingly random acts of terror around him, Gregory starts to fear for the safety of the people he loves. The question of the inviolability of confidential disclosures made to Gregory by his patients - privileged information - becomes crucial as the psychologist pursues an unsettling romance with Lauren Crowder, a lovely deputy district attorney investigating one of the deaths. Bound to silence, Gregory follows the psychological tracks of someone he fears may be a cunning and disturbed killer, while turning to his enigmatic but supportive partner, Diane Estevez, for counsel, and to his tart-tongued female urologist neighbor for support. The sinister, surprising drama unfolds against Boulder's Rocky Mountain backdrop, in the arresting natural beauty of Aspen, and in the midst of a baroque Halloween costume party in downtown Boulder. Finally, in a lonely mountain lodge enshrouded in menace, the story comes to its breathtaking climax.

Good Story, horrible narration
The narration of this book makes it almost unlistenable. I don’t know what they were trying to accomplish, but failed. Some people might like being talked at like two year old, I’m not one. The change of voice for the Navajo characters is very distasteful.

Enjoyed the story, interesting premse
R Lawson Gamble has created an interesting group of characters and imaginative take on native myths, overall an interesting premise. Unfortunately flawed by The narrator Thomas Block. Sentences, paragraphs don't flow naturally and poor differentiation of characters, confusing. The quality of the written story is five star.

Narrator was difficult to listen to
Narrator's inflections, intonations, and speaking pace was halting and inconsistent. Sometimes was like listening to a new, inexperienced reader, or to someone who wasn't using anticipation or inference. Sometimes the narrator sounded distracted so sentences were broken and the pace would occasionally be sped up and others were narrated painfully slow. I even adjusted the speed and it was still difficult. It was sometimes hard to understand which character was speaking.
Story was good for a quick and light listen. I did enjoy, for a nice change, that the people going after the 'bad guy', regardless of affiliation, did work together. Also enjoyed that there was not foul language or sexual content as it wouldn't have added much to the story. Seems there could be more story to develop.

Wrong narrator for this book
Could not finish 2nd chapter. New York / northeastern accent is probably better for a noir set in a city. Navajo's sounded like Asians. Sorry, sure this guy is good for other setting than southwest indian-country
