About this listen

Lot was the nephew of the patriarch Abraham and learned from him as they emigrate from Iraq/Iran area to Israel, 4,000 years ago. Abraham, the father of the Israelis and the Arabs, is a giant of the faith, but Lot got sidetracked and lost everything.

This book follows his progress and examines what lies behind the scenes. Learn about the fascinating escape from Sodom when God rained fire down upon it and finish up appreciating the faithfulness of God.

A really good book about Lot

The not only talks about the story of Lot and his sins and mistakes but also makes the story interesting and relatable. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about Lot and what happened in Sodom and Gomorrah.

Now I understand the meaning of Lot's life

I now understand the meaning of "your lot in life". Not following God's path will lead you nowhere. I noticed the advantages given to Lot and how he ignored them. Great story with a great message.

Great Bible Character Series!

I am following along this series to refresh what I learned over many years ago in Sunday school. I liked how the author compared Lot's life to his own and comes to the conclusion that he, like Lot is nothing without God. So true for us all. Great read to anyone wanting to revisit the characters in the bible in an enjoyable way.

Thoughtful and interesting story.

Narration is very enjoyable to listen to and has great pacing. I really enjoyed this book on Lot because it dives deep into his journey. Each chapter focuses on a different part of his life where he was exposed to different challenges that shaped him. The bonus at the end on Abraham was also a nice surprise.

Relevant and Practical

I was in just from the first 30 seconds of the sample that I initially listened to on this book. This is a lovely book. I’m so thankful there are books out there like this. Very relatable and great to hear the author say he walked away for a little bit and ultimately is so thankful for the foundation he was given in Christ from a young age.

God is faithful and does not disappoint.

The story of Lot and his commitment to God and the love for his family is very inspirational and timely. It is so important to not want what the world has or idolizes, but what God has for us. There is direction for life in the Word and there is life when trusting Him with your life!

Super relevant and super appreciated!

The only reason I gave it a for is I wanted it to go longer. Definitely would recommend especially to my Bible study friends. Also look forward checking out to more books in the series.

Applicable for today

I recently started walking in the evenings and have been listening to music, but today I decided to listen to this book instead. I ended up listening to the whole thing in one evening. I really was impressed by the way the book started presenting personal application right away, not waiting until the end. I look forward to the next one.

Learn a lot about Lot

I considered giving this book fewer stars at first because I felt it did not meet my expectations of a scholarly examination of the historical development of the biblical character in scripture over time. But upon reflection I concluded the problem was with my expectations, not the book. When considered from the author's point of view he did exactly what he intended.

This is a book written by a devout believer in Christian theology for other Christian readers who share his beliefs. In that respect the book is 100% successful. The book is part auto-biographical as the author intertwines his personal history in comparison with Lot's. It is part preachy as the author uses elements on Lot's story to expound on principles of Christian theology. It is part speculative as the author infers from the scriptures Lot's thoughts and speculates actions that are not actually presented in the text. And finally, in the bonus material, it is part proselytizing as the author invites the reader to join in his beliefs reminiscent of the tent revivals of old.

The author does not reveal which revised version of the original scriptures he is reading from, so we are left to speculate. Most likely the the 1880 revision of the 1611 King James revision of the 1526 Tyndale version. This works nicely with the slight English accent of the splendid narration by Alan Irving. This book should encourage you to delve deeper into Christian scriptures if you are not a Christian, and if you are already a member of that faith it will buttress and sustain your faith.

Lots of Biblical Knowledge

The author did a great job with his exegesis of the character of Lot. He poses questions that get you to think about his life back then, our lives now, and what we can learn from Lot's walk with the Lord. I resonated with how the author paralleled his own life with that of Lot's. And I appreciated how he tied it all together by stressing the importance of responding to the call and staying in right relationship with God. The narrator did a good job with his pacing and did not rush reading the parts of scripture. This allowed me to place myself in the setting of the character and imagine living a life in their shoes.
