Publisher's summary

The bundle covers the stories of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob with a bonus book on Lot, Abraham's nephew.

The Bible tells us that Abraham was God's friend and he was chosen to head up all of God's people, including us in the Church today.

They were not a perfect family, indeed, these stories will raise your eyebrows at times, they are so dysfunctional.

The story of Abraham is a journey through life. It is a journey all of us are called to make. The circumstances may be different, the location most certainly will not be the same route as Abraham took, but the journey we take will face the same problems and same distractions which would seek to sideline us. Therefore, it is crucial to study these characters. As Solomon said, “Nothing is new under the sun”. We can learn from these scriptures, which God has provided for us.

Isaac is like the Church today. He is a great man but achieves little.

The story of Jacob gives me hope. Jacob is no less than a rogue. If Jacob were alive in the twenty-first century, he would be one of those ruthless entrepreneurs who would take advantage of their staff and pay them a pittance. He would outwit his competitors and pull every trick in the book. Jacob would be the JR Ewing.

Lot escapes from Sodom and Gomorrah by the skin of his teeth.

Good Summary and Detail of the patriarchs

This hits covers all the Biblical narratives of each and provides the author’s take on the meaning and relevance. Although I might not personally agree with his emphasis, I do not disagree with the approach and support. The narrator is very good but mispronounced my understanding of the names of Esau and Laban. Thanks

Information in this book and how it pertains to today’s society!

It was interesting to learn about Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Lot. A wonderful series of biblical characters and stories. You will learn about Abrahams life and you will be able to connect your Christianity with the teachings in this book. I particularly like the section in this book that talks about praying together and building relationships. I like the way James G Whitelaw compares the lives of these biblical characters to our modern day lives and problems we may be faced with today, our faith and situations. This book also teaches that we must teach our children about faith and God when they are young so that when they grow up they will know how to act in society. It was interesting to learn that Abraham had Isaac at 100 years old and that Sarah his wife was 90 years old when she gave birth to him. Abraham lives until he is 175 years old. Wow. Now we are luck to live to the age of 80.
You will learn that Isaac repeats the same errors as Abraham and how it relates to modern judges and music. You will learn how Isaac lives until he is 180 years old and how confusion rules the world today.
You will learn that Jacob was a twin and how they deceived Isaac with the help of Rebecca. You will learn about Jacobs Ladder and how God appears to him with promises and how Jacob rebels.
Lot believes in man and realizes Gods blessings. Lot learns about God and his people and the people before him. Lot listens to Abrahams advice and observes the choices that Abraham makes. It is taught how choices have consequences.
I recommend this book.

A good book to listen to

The Patriarchs: Abraham, Isaac, Jacobs + Lot... is a good way to approach life as it shows "nothing is new under the sun".

It highlights how the challenges Abraham and others faced are similar today.

The book also reinforced that the promise God had with these biblical individuals, is the same that exist today.

It is a book worth listening to.

Great storytelling!

This book was narrated perfectly, with an engaging and easy-flowing cadence. I’ve studied the patriarchs covered here before, so I had some previous knowledge, but this book was a great refresher and offered some new insight as well.

reconnect with good principles from the bible

Nice book well narrated, those stories from the bible is a source of inspiration to us, as we see there is no perfect family, so there must be a hope for us too. But indeed it was nice to delve into the story and interpretation of the author of what is the importance of the lives of the Patriarchs. Sometimes we avoid to read the bible because in some sense it is complicated book with lot of analogies not so easy to understand or at least with more than one meaning, so getting into someone else’s mind and see things with their eyes, can be very enlightening with was the case for me in this book

Absolutely an excellent book!

Reading this book not only enlightened me, but gave me clarity to things that I could not quite understand. I often forget about the characters in the Bible. This was enjoyable and educational too. It’s nice to find out that the author has a series of book about different characters.
