Publisher's summary

Ellis Eaton has always felt she's been a disappointment to her stuffy, traditional Boston family. Her sights are set on something entirely different: Hollywood. Though she's captured the eye of Griffin Phillips, she knows that "dutiful wife" is one role she can't picture herself playing - even if he makes her head spin and her heart quicken. Besides, Ellis seems to make a mess of any situation, despite her good intentions. She's simply not worthy of an up-and-comer like Griff. When a look-alike childhood friend begs Ellis for a favor, Ellis finds herself working shifts at the city telephone exchange. At first Ellis believes this will be the acting practice she needs to prepare for life in the movies, but the job is far more complicated than she'd ever imagined, and Ellis finds herself in her usual scrapes. After accidentally overhearing a call that makes her blood curdle, Ellis fears for Griff's safety. Then handsome policeman Jack Flanagan comes to the scene, adding to the mayhem. With her job on the line and her heart all a-muddle, Ellis unexpectedly discovers what might be her role of a lifetime.

Love the story but around Ch 27

The main character wears me out ... i had to grit my teeth to keep listening. Having severe ADHD myself I can empathize but come on how self absorbed can you be. I do really like the characters and the whole story it just got to be a bit much for a minute there.

Historical Romance Wrapped in Grace and Tied Up with a Bow of Knowledge

Easily distracted, hyper, compulsive Ellis trades lives with Janie, her servant’s daughter who looks just like her. Struggling to find self-worth in a time that offers no explanation for learning difficulties, Ellis takes Janie’s place as a switchboard operator. Ellis’ life becomes dangerous when she hears a plot to take the college star/boy next door “out”of the picture over the phone lines.

Fans of spirited, humorous, faith-based historical romances will love Siri Mitchell. In this book the reader not only experiences the confusion and self- loathing of a character who suffers with AdD/ADH but sees God’s grace and plan for this young woman.

The reader learns and grows with Ellis as true love comes calling—love as in God’s love, the love of a soulmate and love for self as a child of God.

A Fun Story

What was one of the most memorable moments of Love Comes Calling?

It's hard to choose. Ellis gets herself into so many predicaments that cause many a memorable moment.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narrator did a fine job. She didn't differentiate the voices as well as other narrators that I've heard, but I never felt as though she detracted from the story.

Any additional comments?

Overall I enjoyed this book. Ellis is a very likeable character who, despite her good intentions, always gets herself into trouble. I found that this quality was what kept me engaged with the story because I wanted to see what could possibly go wrong next. The only reason that I give this story 4 stars instead of 5 is because as a Christian historical book, God rarely enters the picture. The morality of this book is based on what people consider is good. The characters never pray or read their Bible when they are seeking help for the situations that arise. I'm disappointed in that aspect, but if you are looking for a funny, good, clean historical romance, this is your book.

Not as good as Siri's more current books

I'm finding the authors earlier books are not as great as her more current books. The story wasn't bad, just the main character, Ellie, I found to be just to unbelievable. This book is suppose to be about a girl with ADHD. Typically an ADHD persons function the best in a crisis and Ellie goes over the top stupid instead. It was hard for me to imagine the "handsome, smart, Captain of the Harvard football team, "Prince", falling for her, even knowing this is fiction.

A book full of foolishness.

How did this book get through the readers for print, and put on the market..You have an adult coed, who doesn't know how to listen, fill out an application, knows how to date, wonders if coffee is hot to drink, doesn't know right from wrong, but knows how to lie consistently. This adult woman behaved like a 5th or6th grader and all who knew her didn't see a problem? Is this writer a family member of the publishers, that they just let this slide through the cracks? This book was a complete waste of time.

Decent story

I guess Ya appropriate for the time period, but If I hear "oysters and clam bakes" one more time I will scream. A Decent story just a bit shallow and implausible.
