Delightful!

The more I read this series, the more I want to be invited to Dominca's for dinner. I want to hear one of Angus' poems in person, have Cyril eye my ankles, and have a serious chat with Irene about parenting. How can one grow to care so much about imaginary people? Perhaps Dr. Fairbairn could answer that question - on second thought.... I found myself laughing out loud as I listened.

This particular book sees Dominica off to study the pirates, Bertie joins a teen orchestra, poor Cyril gets kidnapped, Big Lou gets ripped off, and more, with all sorts of adventures ensuing. These are stories with a heart and soul.

Robert Ian MacKenzie narrates the adventures with love and affection, using different voices for the different characters. Thank you, Alexander McCall Smith for this gift of a series.

the story continues

I really loved the continuing story of the residents of 44 Scotland Street, especially Bertie's adventures in Paris!

Gorgeous writing

Profound understanding and compassion for human nature; rich detail about history, culture, place, style; biting social commentary subtley woven in; and profound insights into the role and nature of beauty and art in human life. Simply gorgeous writing.

enjoyable

I loved the author's Ladies Detective Agency books, but this was the first in this series for me. At first I thought the little boy's character would prove to be too irritating for me to endure, but the narrator was so good that I ended up enjoying the book and would recommend it as a fun book.

Story is not as good as the 2 earlier books.

Where does Love Over Scotland rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would give it a B. The first 2 44 Scotland Street books were A+.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bertie is my favorite character by far.

Which character – as performed by Robert Ian MacKenzie – was your favorite?

MacKenzie performs all the characters flawlessly.

Any additional comments?

I can't wait to listen to the next 44 Scotland Street book. "The World According to Bertie"

nothing much happens -- just love it

it's as tho you are sitting in Big Lou's coffee bar, with Cyral breathing on and contemplating biting your ankles!! The narration is superb.

The Best 44 Scotland St. Book Yet

I have read all of this series, have enjoyed them immensely, and find this to be the most enjoyable. The characters, as usual, are highly developed and seem to come to life. It's fun, too, having a history with these characters, and much of the plot is a continuation of their past exploits. I would carefully dole out my listening time because I didn't want to get to the end! The narrator is terrific. If you've never read any of these books, start with the first one.

Great fun!

Is there anything this man writes that isn't good to great? He's a genius! I like this series better than those of The Number One Ladies Detective Agency, and that's saying a lot!
