About this listen

Emma

When my best friend Aubrey asked me to tag along to an event with her, I never could have imagined that it would be the day that my life changed forever. He's arrogant and demanding and doesn't take a hint. Landon Barker, the quarterback for the Hermosa Beach Trojans, is a player on and off of the field. He's got his sights set on me as his next play, but I see right through him. Aubrey says I'm overreacting, that I should give him a chance. What she doesn't realize is men like Landon don't fall for the girl next door. That's not reality. She got her fairytale, although it was a long road. Not all of us are that lucky.

Landon

She's a friend of our new kicking coach's wife. When I ask Chance for her number, he tells me I have to find a way to get it myself.

Nothing when it comes to Emma has been easy. She's the first woman ever to turn me down, and that won't do. However, as time passes, it's about more than that. It's about her smile, her laugh, and just spending time with her. She thinks I'm a player, and she's right. What she doesn't know is that I play to win, and her heart is the ultimate trophy.

Beautiful

What a joyful book this was! Loved Emma, her personality and he way she made Landon work to gain her trust and love! The way he worshipped her is just perfect

Loved Every Moment of this Romance!!!

Kaylee Ryan has done it again....She has created another swoon-worthy hero that is the absolute total package. Lucky Bastard is the story of Emma who works at an animal shelter and Landon AKA Lucky Bastard, who is the quarterback for the Hermosa Beach Trojans. Emma works with Aubrey who is Chance AKA Cocky Bastard's wife (both from Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland's book Cocky Bastard), and Chance is a coach for the Trojans as well.

Landon is a man who knows what he wants and goes after it, and he has his sights set on Emma. His determination to win her over was remarkable, and he was genuine about it also, which was nice. Emma was reluctant to give him a shot given the discrepancies in their life situations, but he eventually wore her down.

I enjoyed Landon's take charge attitude, his protectiveness of Emma and his overall commitment to the relationship. When he committed, he fully committed, no question about it and he doted on Emma. I love that Kaylee Ryan's books are generally low drama, high romance, all around feel good books, and Lucky Bastard was no exception.

Teddy Hamilton is among my very favorite of male narrators. He did a fantastic job as Landon. I also really enjoy listening to Savannah Peachwood. She does a great job with various emotions throughout the course of the story.

Fantastic story and performance!

I love a good chase! Add in a cocky hero and it's even better. Kaylee Ryan has done it again; another story that pulls you in from page 1 and keeps you reading right up to the last epilogue. The last several chapters were a surprise but I still got my HEA.

Some weird inconsistencies

On the whole, I liked this slow burn story. There were a few inconsistencies that bugged me:

1. why does Chance lose his Aussie accent with both narrators (except the one scene that occurs when at an away game trip)? if you're involving characters from previous books (even if they're not yours) wouldn't you keep the characterization of each?

2. in the beginning, she (and the bank) owns her house. Near the end, (not really a spoiler) she is planning to sell her house. In the middle, however, she can't have a dog because it's forbidden by the rental agreement with her landlord?

3. All throughout the book, Landon is #18. So at the end (also not a spoiler), why does he have "#13 eyes"???

My favourite in the Cocky Hero World so far!

5 stars!

-audio review-

Oh my goodness I LOVED Landon & Emma. Lucky Bastard has been my favourite book in the Cocky Hero Series so far! It is a sweet, and steamy sports romance and I devoured it. I could not stop listening from start to finish. I loved getting to see Aubrey & Chance (from Cocky Bastard) again. Emma is Aubrey’s bestie and they are working together on an event for the animal shelter they work at. Emma has a heart of gold and has a bit of hesitation at first in getting involved with Landon. Landon is a professional football player and is the perfect man for Emma. He meets her and he turns on the charm immediately. He is confident and relentless in his pursuit of her. She made him work for it and of course it was so worth it! Their passion and chemistry was amazing! There is a little twist at the end I never saw coming and I loved it. Fantastic writing! Savannah Peachwood and Teddy Hamilton were the perfect choice in narrators. I love them. Their voices really bring these characters to life.

Good story with poor editing

I always enjoy revisiting with Aubrey and Chance. I liked Landon more than I did Emma, at the beginning of the story. I was surprised and disappointed that Teddy Hamilton failed to use an Aussie accent when speaking as Chance. There were a couple of discrepancies towards the end of the story, like Emma calling Landon #13 in the epilogue. The editors didn't catch but how about Savannah, she was using #18 throughout the entire story often enough, I mean a lot, as it was Emma's nickname for Landon, besides Lucky Bastard. The other mistake was when Landon mentioned having to list Emma's place with a realtor. In the earlier chapters Emma mentioned that she could not have pets because her landlord did not allow it. Not major but should have been caught. Overall still a good story.

Hot star quarterback meets uninterested girl...

I am a sucker for a good sports romance, make it football, even better! This is my first book by Ryan and I really enjoyed it. Landon is a star quarterback. He appears to be arrogant and cocky but I love his sweet and loving side as well. Emma is a normal girl who helps to run an animal shelter who is not interested in the star quarterback. I loved the persistence that Landon had. The bond and relationship that was developed between the two. The story progression was perfect. The twist worked for the story. overall great story!

Good story

This book has a lot of inconsistencies.
Example: Emma says she owns the house and that it isn’t much but it’s hers. Then later on in the story talks about how she cannot have pets because the landlord doesn’t allow it. At the end they talk about how they listed her house. Just a lot of little inconsistencies throughout the story

Good !

The first book that started the “Hero Club Series” Soraya and Graham’s story Is “Stuck-Up Suit” by ViKeeland and Penelope Ward it took me forever to figure it out.
You don’t need to read the first book but if you want to....

Emma and Landon

My kind of story with some drama and no melodrama. Beautifully written and if I could make one complaint is that I missed Chance’s accent. However loved every minute of it !
