About this listen

Psychologist Serena Sheridan has come back to the small Louisiana town where she’d been raised—and where her grandfather has suddenly gone missing. Successful, ambitious, beautiful, Serena always found the darker world of the bayous far less predictable—and far more treacherous—than the life she’d chosen.

And for help, she must turn to a man as mysterious and dangerous as the backcountry itself: Lucky Doucet. He’s a man with a past littered with secrets best left concealed—the perfect guide to lead Serena into a world of dazzling seduction, sudden violence, and raw natural beauty. From the exotic French Quarter to the most remote bayou, they would follow a trail of corruption and betrayal to a showdown that would require they trust not only their own deepest instincts for survival—but each other.

have loved this book for over 15 years

this is one of my all time favorites. she did a great job with the performance and I will listen to this book often. the author wrote actual good banter between the characters and the narrator conveys it realistically and over the years it has become the measuring stick by which I compare all other enemies to lovers books.

The narration was excellent! And the love story was beautiful and endearing!

Excellent! I read a book per week and this book will be one I will always remember! I love the Ducet men!

Not what I expected

I normally really like Tami Hogue’s stories. I was expecting a mystery at best. At worst, this was nothing short of a steamy romance. It should have been in a different genre. I will continue to read this author’s stories, because this is the first time I’ve been disappointed. However, I’ll be sure to read the critiques before purchase.

Fast Easy Read

I found this book quite enjoyable. In the last couple months I had been reading a lot of books regarding our recent political issues so I was ready to read something a little more fun, but still had some good twists and turns and this book fit perfectly. If you’re not someone who likes the play on accents then you probably won’t enjoy the reader’s Louisiana speak, but I found it fun. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a little mystery, a touch of Louisiana flavor, but without a lot of blood and gore.

Not what I expected from Hoag

Read more like a porn novel than a mystery. I was very disappointed. However, through the years I have enjoyed Ms. Hoag’s work and will continue reading her mysteries.

Horrible!!

Is this seriously the same author that wrote The Boy??? Guess that was the last time I read one of her books, I absolutely loved it.. I can’t return books to audible even though I buy 2 extra credits a month🤪.. because I thought it was like a library, if you don’t like a book take it back, right??? Anyway I bought this book and literally can’t believe what a horrible, stupid book it is. I thought it was a mystery…not a slow boring romance. I’m more mad I can’t even get a credit for this complete waste of my time and $$ !!

Not My Cup of Tea!

If you are looking for a mystery novel, this is NOT it! I agree with another reviewer that this is a long, sloooow, love story. And my gosh, if you are going to have someone narrate a book, please, please, please get someone who can perfect the dialect/accent. The mispronunciations of the “Cajun” words was so annoying! Fake Southern Louisiana accents are the worst!!!!

I good story in a trashy romance

There was a good story underneath the aching, throbbing of a predicable sex filled romance story. The impact of big industries to the swamp would have been the better story.
I think this was one of Tami Hoag 's earlier works because I usually love her writing.
