Publisher's summary

An epic mafia romance trilogy from NY Times Bestselling and Audie Award winning author, CD Reiss.

Some girls dream of marrying a prince, but I never imagined I’d be sold to a king.

Santino DiLustro.
The king.
The monster.
The keeper of secrets.

When he forced me to marry him, I cried for love I’d never know.

When he locked me away, I cried for the freedom I lost forever. Every other tear I’ve shed is for my soul, because I’m falling for the devil himself.

This is the first of three in a series.

ok same old story, weak girl falls for controller

I'm so sick of weak girl stories and dominate men, The voices made story worse. To much spoiled girl self talking like a crazy person, who does this author truly think will enjoy this. A great story should have equal male and female voice, this was weak. So sorry I wasted my create on this book. I hate cliff endings it a sign of bad writing not good writing. This is for men who want women to remain dumb, nieve, sad, no love in this story just irritation for wasting my time. Not recommending this book, and seriously question if I should ever read any thing from this author.

it was okay...

Since I only read this as an audiobook i don't know if the female character was meant to be crying or close to crying every other line. It was kind of annoying to be honest and made me almost drop this book. I was hoping that Violetta wouldn't be as weak as she was. I understand she was shocked and that she never thought this might happen to HER but still I expected her to be less "we're in America you can't do this" and it also didn't help that she denies the truth to herself about her own feelings and about her father's business.

Wasn’t for me

It just didn’t do it for me.
I found the two main characters bland and uninteresting.
The male narrator is good however, he sounds far too old for the character’s voice and it brings a level of creepiness that the author obviously didn’t intend.. he was suppose to be 33, but sounded well into his 50’s
Also, I hate cliff hangers .. not that there isn’t an obvious conclusion to the big cliffhanger (there are two other books in the series).

Ugh

I like the first book so far but the constant whine cry quivering female voice is driving me insane OMG. Well now to the male narration. His voice is nice but keeping the accent going world have been nice. I think. Just my opinion

(2.5) It was repetitive nonsense.

How she made this book stretch for 10 hours on repetitive phrases and backwards behaviours, I have no clue. The heroine was a whining 8-year old that behaved like she wasn't raised in the traditional Italian customs. Yes, she is in America and was encouraged to get an education but she should have known better. To top it all off, she is 19-years old, give me a break.

Mesmerizing

CD Reiss one again left me wowed and amazed...her emotionally rich writing style will evoke all the feels. You will feel Violetta's hope and devastation. Santino's power and raw intensity. The character development and well built plot will keep you intrigued and enthralled. As the plot thickens there are more twists and storylines that keep you wondering. CD knows how to capture the reader’s attention and keep it there to the very end. I am looking forward to the next audiobook in this stunning.series. Emma Wilder and Antonio Amato delivered a breathtaking performance. They bring the characters and story to life from the pages to your ears. Definetly worth a credit! #AudiobookObsessionReviewer🎧

What a beginning .... Book 1 of 3

I don't know where to begin with this opinion. I went into this with an open mind, hoping that it lived up to the hype from some of my favorite bloggers. While I did not find it as stellar as most, it is a very solid, well written, well developed mafia story. I will most likely buy book 2 when it comes out in June because the cliff hanger .... I WANT TO KNOW WHY!!!! (no spoilers here).

Violetta is forced to marry a capo who has strong traditional ties to Italy. His 19 year old bride has been raised as an American and has a hard time adapting to her sudden marriage to a stranger, giving up the freedom she so enjoyed and generally being a teenager. The story unfolds as she learns the "why" of her situation.

The only problem I had with the story was that this 19 year old supposedly wanted to be dominated by her husband even though she is a virgin. How could she possibly know what kind of sex she likes without first experiencing the act? IMO it was on the verge of unbelievable. If she had just been overwhelmingly attracted to him it would have read better for me. I think that is a personal hang up not the problem of the author.

My overall opinion is as follows. If male domination and vulgar sex talk suits you, this will be the book for you. I am interested in seeing how the heroine develops in book 2. Hoping for a tough heroine!

Narration was good. IMO it is credit worthy.

Narration is AWFUL, Ruins Audible

I don't like giving negative reviews, But, the quiet whiny droning voice is awful, its ruining the story. I'm returning this and buying the kindle version. Please PLEASE find a different female narrator for the next books in the series.
