Publisher's summary

It isn’t often that Kate Daniels and the Beast Lord Curran get to take a break from protecting their pack and enjoy some time for themselves. So when Curran offers Kate a romantic dinner in town, there’s no way she’s going to pass.

But their quiet night doesn’t stay quiet for long. The trouble starts with a necromancer dying at a nearby table, continues with bloodthirsty vampires crashing through the windows, and ends with more blood on the walls than any dining establishment needs.

Pulled into a deadly game neither wants to play, Kate and Curran find themselves dealing with the vile undead and tolerating a clan of maniacal, hard partying Vikings while desperately trying to save the life of an innocent child...

Action packed!

There is so much action packed into this short story! Just like any book by Ilona Andrews this has all of the world building, character development, weird creatures, hilarious banter, and intriguing plot that keep me wanting more. This Graphic Audio production adds multicast narration and sound effects. Highly recommend!!

How far would you go to help a little boy?

Loved it, made me get teary eyed towards the end. Kate and Curran at their best saving kids. It does give context to part of Andrea’s story with the draugar in Gunmetal Magic. Should read in order. I look forward to more dramatized version.

Good things come in small packages … but …

“It’s all fun and games until the Viking Santa shows up”
This was a mostly self-contained magical mystery, with plenty of action and danger. The unique magics and creatures are two of the things that separate this series from typical urban fantasy. The idea of a gift gone wrong brought delicious Grimm fairy tale vibes.

“Double or nothing?”
I think this is only for those who are invested in the series, however, as there’s a big chunk of the story devoted to the evolution of the Guild; anyone thinking to start here will either be lost in those parts or dissatisfied at having to pause for irrelevant detours from the actual Magic Gifts plot. I for one loved the detours, particularly with Gastec and his vampires.

Very entertaining

I enjoyed this short story - I wish Graphic Audio would record Andreas book, Gunmetal Magic, that's an important installment to the story.
