About this listen
The first Atticus Pund and Susan Ryeland mystery from bestselling author Anthony Horowitz, and inspiration for the major hit BBC series MAGPIE MURDERS.
Editor Susan Ryland has worked with bestselling crime writer Alan Conway for years. Readers love his detective, Atticus Pünd, a celebrated solver of crimes in the sleepy English villages of the 1950s.
But Conway's latest tale of murder at Pye Hall is not quite what it seems. Yes, there are dead bodies and a host of intriguing suspects, but hidden in the pages of the manuscript lies another story: a tale written between the very words on the page, telling of real-life jealousy, greed, ruthless ambition and murder.
From the creator of Midsomer Murders comes a fiendish mystery perfect for fans of Agatha Christie's Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot.
Praise for Magpie Murders - the gripping Sunday Times bestselling crime thriller:
'Ingenious' Sunday Times
'Thrilling and compelling with a stunning twist' Daily Mail
'A stylish thriller' Sunday Mirror
'A cunning reinvention of the thriller' Mail on Sunday

Good book but lacking in some areas.
Loved the reveal of the killlers but how they were being investigated lacked substance and evidence.

Great listening
This book had a story within a story, but it came together nicely and keeps you interested. Well worth a listen.

Anthony Horowitz Does it Again!!! 🙆♂️🙆♂️
This book was amazing!!! A classic whodunnit and i didn't realize the ending till it slapped me in the face 😂. At first, i was a bit unsure about the book. The characters seemed to be increasing and i was scared i wouldn't have been able to keep up. But knowing Horowitz, i knew he wouldn't disappoint.
I was a big fan of his Alex Rider series and am glad he his taking his prowess and writing new books.
The narrators were also highly entertaining...especially Samantha. This was truly an enjoyable listen and would recommend it to anyone. Am now going to buy the paperback 😄.

Story in a Story
Good Idea, nice plot . The classic detective story is better then the Editor one. Even though I guessed the ending the „why“ was really good explaind and composed. solid nice work.

Brilliant dual story.
This is a very cleverly written work of crime fiction. Not modern crime fiction with its blood and guts but an old fashioned type detective novel. Having said that, it’s very very different, like nothing I’ve ever read before. I will certainly be recommending it to my Book Club.
The narration by the way was superb - in two different voices for the dual story.

Hat Trick for Horowitz
Loved it. Read like a Christie but at a faster pace and hooked me right from the start.

Good listen
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would - interested to now start book two as I have no idea what it will be about as I felt the first booked tied up all loose ends!

QUITE BORING
As others have noted there is very little character development despite yards and yards of minutiae regarding daily middle class mindless existences. After several chapters I began to realise the characters were appendages of their possessions with less colour and appeal. Ultimately I didn't care at all about anyone and kept listening just for background noise. A cute idea for sure but not cute enough to offset the dullness of the settings and people. Skip it.

Overly complicated
Became disinterested long before the ending. Too clever by half. Disappointed. Must do better in future.
