Critic reviews

‘Patrick’s early life is a Dickensian tale of domestic violence and misfortune, transformed by chance and some good folk into the actor internationally admired and loved. He writes as well as he acts, with insight, truth and passion. Another Stewart Triumph!’ (Sir Ian McKellen)
‘There is so much to say about Sir Patrick. He is an amazing actor, great to look at, really funny and up for anything. He is a kind man… compassionate and sensitive…. but, as you will find when you read the book, his greatest asset as a human being is the fact that he is so completely and unapologetically himself’ (Whoopi Goldberg)
‘I read this book in a state of wonder, not just for the author’s gifts as a nuanced storyteller and sharp observer, but for those other remarkable gifts, of intelligence, sensitivity, wit, intuition, self-awareness and élan that were bestowed on him when he came into the world – all of which he has freely shared with us so long and so beautifully; and finished reading in a state of deep gratitude for the gifts, and the gift, of Patrick Stewart’

(Michael Chabon)
‘What a glorious memoir Sir Patrick Stewart has written. His prose is elegant and beautiful, diamond-like in its clarity and precision, and his recollections of his life are full of tenderness, insight, candour and pathos. If he hadn't been so busy all these years being a great actor, delighting us all, he could have been a great writer, and now with this book, he is one’ (Jonathan Ames)

Wonderful for Patrick Stewart fans out there!

I grew up, watching Star Trek, the next generation, following the exploits of the enterprise and it’s valiant leader, Captain Jean, Luke Picard. Later on, I came on to admire the X-Men series as well as several other performances Patrick Stewart was in.
Listening to Patrick read his own memoirs, was exhilarating for me, Patrick Stewart treats in a voice that engages you from the first second of the book until the closing remarks. It also made me aware that I’ve never had a chance to see Patrick Stewart on stage and that’s the thing I came to regret.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who’s ever been a Star Trek/X-Men fan and wanted to know a little more about the character in the lead role for all those films. Patrick provides his own point of view of the series of the different characters and gives a lot of behind the scene anecdotes I never knew butenjoyed reading.
Oh, and all that wonderful read and a super performance by Sir Patrick Stewart

It felt like a fireside chat with a friend

I listen to the whole book in five sessions. Fully immersive, I listen to it as I went through my daily chores, finding myself in the sitting in the dark at the end of the day, fully relaxed. I know it’s one-sided, but I now feel that I can call Patrick my friend.

Wonderful narration by Sir Patrick of his memoirs

It was a treat having the great man narrate his own memoirs. So honest, humble and emotional at times, it was a truly wonderful listen.

Absolutely brilliant!

Extremely detailed account of an extraordinary life. Hearing it in a voice of an author made it for an experience like no other. The whole 18 hours felt like watching a movie.
