About this listen

When her son is accused of a violent crime, church first lady Gloria Jones finds herself battling his prosecutor - as well as her own inner demons - to save him in this drama-filled novel from best-selling, award-winning author ReShonda Tate Billingsley.

Gloria Jones is living a mother's worst fear. There's a massive manhunt for her son after a regular night out with friends escalated into the fatal shooting of a police officer. Her husband, esteemed minister Elton Jones, is humiliated by the news, complicating an already strained relationship with his son. And everyone in Jasper, Texas, a town already ripe with racial tension, is up in arms. But the killer they're searching for isn't the son Gloria knows, and now she must decide whether to turn him in or help him run.

As the 17-year-old battles for his life, Gloria turns to the woman hell-bent on bringing him to justice - prosecutor Kay Christiansen. Kay has built a solid record putting criminals behind bars, and now, as she's about to ride the record to the city's top spot - mayor of Houston - this new case could threaten everything she's worked for. But a mother's love knows no boundaries, and Gloria will have to face an ugly past and tackle painful secrets in an effort to save her son.

Wow..... This is a must listen

First let me say how much I enjoyed this boom from the opening to the very last seconds of the epic epilogue. This was an amazing story that touched on love, hate, rape, secrets, lies and deceit. Ultimately the the message of forgiveness and love came through with a clear message. This book was deep. It touched on a subject that is far to common these days. Race relations, fear of police officers in the black community. Like I said it's definitely worth a credit and a second or third listen.

Interesting read

While the storyline was extremely unpredictable with many twists and turns, it was concerning. I was I instantly annoyed with Gloria being so dumb and weak. I didn’t like the way Kay’s husband reacted to her truth. All of my guesses about trying to figure who the mystery person was who did what were very wrong so it was intriguing to see how things panned out. A lot of events related to the reality of todays world

Mothers make the world go round

I didn't think I would like this story… I've been stuck reading a lot of the Jack reacher series and wanted a break so I bought this one. From the beginning I was riveted. A mothers love surely knows no bounds in this very well written drama. At first I didn't like Kayla's personality at all. Her narrowminded way of thinking just got to me and I kept thinking how would she feel if this was to happen in her own perfect world and something worth eventually did and I was clapping. This book was heartwarming and addresses a lot of issues that are going on today. A great read

This book touched on so many current problems in society today

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to my friends! Some of the situations were a bit too unrealistic but overall it was a great fast read with twists and turns and a few surprises but a little bit predictable in some areas!
