Critic reviews

"[Moody] has a splendid talent for bringing the ashes of the past into life." ( Chicago Sunday Tribune)"An affectionate portrait of ranch-town folk who knew how to help without humiliating, and a warm but ungushing tribute to a remarkable woman who deplored her inability to give her children everything, yet gave them much." ( New York Times)

Excellent quality narration of a great book

I love this book and the others in the series for the warmth, humor, in the portrayal of Ralph Moody's family. I felt like cheering when they triumphed and cried when they faced great hardship and sorrow. The portrayals of faith, kindness, integrity and courage were inspiring and believable. I highly recommend this series and the narrator who deftly narrates in each characters voice.

I must "read" all of the series!

Would you listen to Man of the Family again? Why?

I watch movies once; and I read books once. For me, there's too much to do to go back.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Man of the Family?

I have truly enjoyed learning of all the creative ways Ralph earned money to help out the family.

Which character – as performed by Cameron Beierle – was your favorite?

Of course, Ralph is my favorite character. I find it interesting how he talks most about the sister that is closest to his age. And I enjoy him talking about her, too.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed and got teary eyed, too.

Any additional comments?

I find this series of books as ones I want to "read" to acquaint myself more with how life was before I was born.

a fantastic book!

This book is definitely worth listening to! I loved it! I liked how the story was written, from the boy's perspective. The narrator sounded like he enjoyed reading it.

A great taste of life in the early 1900's

This story is captivating and great for young and old alike. It is amazing to listen to the ways that the author and his family were able to make ends meet through their ingenuity and industry. Great lessons of morality taught throughout. Well worth your time.
