About this listen

Louis is a Trumpeter Swan, but he has no voice. Though he is frightened when his father explains to him that he is different from the other cygnets, Louis is resourceful and determined. Leaving his wild and beautiful home, he finds a young human friend, Sam Beaver, who helps him learn to read and write. When he returns to the lake, Louis discovers his education isn't enough: the beautiful swan he loves, Serena, can't read his declarations of love, and he can't trumpet them. Louis' resolution to win the swan of his desire launches him on an adventure that will take him far from home and lead where fate and love have a few surprises in store.

With humor and lyric beauty, E.B. White tells a timeless tale of love, courage, and freedom that will capture the imagination of every listener.

Love the New England accent

The story starts off slow, but takes a surprisingly absurd and wonderful turn. All kids should get to enjoy this. I especially love the author's voice.

E.B. White is a delight to listen to!

This is a beautiful, remarkable book, and a very well-written story, for both children and adults. I have read it to classrooms full of children who were all riveted and listened to this for my own enjoyment. I love the author's narration, he has a great voice and timing. Give it a few chapters for the story to really take off. Highly recommended.

Great interesting story

The author is the narrator who’s voice doesn’t really fit the story but does well enough for us to enjoy the book.

My kids were enraptured

My kids and I very much enjoyed the novel and hearing Mr. White’s work in his own voice. The jokes and delivery were wonderful.

At first I thought it may be too slow paced for the kids, but they soon kept requesting to listen to the book going so far as to sit in our driveway for the last 20 minutes.

one of my all-time childhood favorites

I love this wonderful story, it is one of my childhood favorites . I was a bit disappointed in the audiobook though. I hate to say, but I simply did not like the narrator. His voice and cadence did not do this book justice.

My favorite

I first heard this story in the 3rd grade when my teacher read it to our class. We listen to this story each year in my classroom now. The students love it almost as much as I do. No one can tell it like EB White.

Review by 10 year old and 7 year old

This story was interesting, great, and exciting. It had everything you want in an audiobook. We got caught up in the story and enjoyed all the different emotions the characters experienced like humor, happiness, gratitude, love, and affection. We rooted for Louis to find true love and succeed in his plans. We enjoyed listening to this book so much we want to listen to it again.
