Publisher's summary

Introducing the Mapton on Sea series by Sam Maxfield, narrated by award-winning narrator and comedian, Alison Larkin. Heartwarming, hilarious, and original, this brilliant new comic series has a love story, a little mystery, and a lot of laughs. If you’re looking for a light, engaging story that will make you laugh and cry, this one’s for you!

Stella loves her life in London, being far from the foul-mouthed, flame-haired grandmother who raised her. Then, she gets the dreaded call in the middle of the night, and finds herself living with Gina in the crazy coastal town of Mapton on Sea.

Whether it’s misbehaving dogs or gangs of pensioners racing mobility scooters along the promenade, as the June temperature soars, love shows up, and a mystery is revealed. Gina, Stella, and the residents of Mapton are in for a hilariously explosive summer.

Long-listed for the Women’s Fiction Prize. Exclusively for Audible, this audiobook includes a sample from the next book in the series, Mapton Strikes Back.

A hilarious, heartwarming audiobook

Sometimes you just want a light escape, and if so, this is for you! I loved the world I was being introduced to and didn't want it to end. It's brilliantly narrated by my favorite narrator, Alison Larkin and the story is just delightful and so funny and you want to know what's going to happen next, so you keep listening! I loved the whole Mapton seaside resort and the characters seem real and so funny and appealing. I also loved Grazia from Eastern Europe who was so so funny. I really loved that the main character's grandmother is so cantankerous and difficult because it felt real and - well, there's a reason for her behaviour and guessing why she was like that was one of the most compelling things about this story for me. A mystery was uncovered. I also loved the love story and the elderly people racing about on mobility scooters was one of the funniest scenes I've heard in a long time. This is the first book in the series and I can't wait to listen to the next. This one's a winner! My favorite audiobook of the year so far.

Great multigenerational women characters - great narration! Laugh and cry!

I love EVERYTHING! The story is compelling- and characters so well developed, you are so sad when the story draws to an end.
A grandmother with heart breaking secrets, a grand-daughter who doesn’t know what she might be missing, a care giver with patients and patience! And Mapton, is a main character, too. There is life, love, tears, and renewal! And a crazy pack if dogs, lead by Bing Crosby (an alpha Jack Russell).
Can’t wait for the next book to be recorded- please hurry!

Loved it!

I really enjoyed this book. I loved all the characters and their flaws. It was nice getting to see the characters develop through out the story. I laughed and cried along with the characters. I cannot wait for the next book!!
