About this listen

The national best-selling "master of deception and tension" (Black Gate) returns to the Vampire Earth.... The race is on to claim the area between the Ohio River and Tennessee. What's left of the resistance is hiding out in the tangle of central Kentucky hills - leaving the powerful, well-organized Kurian vampires the opportunity to fill the void.

Major David Valentine knows there's only one way for them to find help before the Kurians settle in: a desperate dash by hijacked rail, followed by a harrowing river journey.

Valentine unites friends old and new in the effort - but the Kurian Order won't easily yield the blood-soaked Kentucky soil.

Bonus audio: includes an introduction written and read by Author E. E. Knight.

Great series

What did you love best about March in Country?

I have read few series that allows a character to grow the way Val does in this series. The series moves Val through distinct stages of development as a man during a time of constant war.
I also really enjoy how the author weaves in details of parts of the US that I have lived in, which adds another layer of interest. Listening to the author describe the south, northwest and the midwest brings a new perception of the places that I am living or have lived

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character is Val, but Val and Ahn-Kha have a great storyline that keeps me into the storyline. The relationship is about loyalty and friendship not unlike Frodo and Samwise, but more mature and cynical.

What does Christian Rummel and E. E. Knight (introduction) bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator does a great job with the voices and accents. It helps keeps the characters straight and adds a nuance to the story

love this series but

What did you love best about March in Country?

That there feels like a conclusion coming to the series

How could the performance have been better?

Narator had a monotone voice

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Opening felt like old books in the series

Any additional comments?

I don't like filler books in long series writings I found this one lacking action as per the history of this series

Not the best in the series...

I'd read other reviewers' comments about this being a transition novel, and not very good, but the first 8 books are great so who wouldn't continue with the series?? I thought everything was progressing fine as usual (aside from more informative narratives than usual), but one part of the story that I was expecting to last a chapter became the heart of the story. From there, transitions were sometimes awkward, as one scene suddenly became another, making it a bit difficult to follow. If this was the first in the series, I might have chalked it up to an unfamiliar narrator, but Rummel is quality as usual. In the end, I would say poor editing is the likely cause.
Some important shuffling of characters happened, I suppose, but no major plot developments. Likely just an average transitional novel, not a decline in the series. I will still look forward to #10.

Outstanding, can't wait for the next book!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, totally worth the credits! Great story and really good performance!

What other book might you compare March in Country to and why?

Any E.E. Knight books! You deserve to read the back story. Way of the Cat!

What about Christian Rummel and E. E. Knight (introduction) ’s performance did you like?

They nail the performances, just the way hey talk is magic!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Who's side would you pick, that of the betrayer who lived or the man who dies with honor!

Any additional comments?

Worth the credits, you will not be disappointed!

A breath of fresh story

An excellent conclusion to this chapter of Valentine's career. I'm anticipating finishing the next chapter. This novel left me wanting more.

Know when to hold and when to fold Mr. Knight!

I enjoyed the earlier books in the Vampire Earth series and got this one just to see what happens to Valentine and Blake...not much! Seems Knight is just trying to keep the series in play rather than creating a new and engaging novel. Each installment has gotten weaker in every area- plot, theme, characterization, writing.. Too bad because I do love the characters who were developed beautifully in the first few books. I'm done now until he get to the final chapter and then I would consider listening if the reviews are excellent.
Authors have to know when to "hold 'em and when to fold 'em"

Same thing, different day

Halfway through and I just can't finish it. Even after listening to the first 8 books, I find myself not caring about what happens. I'm an avid audiobook listener (80+hours per month) and this one just can't keep my attention. Audiobooks are an investment of my time, not to mention a credit, and this one just doesn't cut it.
