I have to admit, going into this audio book I wasn't really sure at all that I could relate to Marcus Aurelius being that he was a Roman Emperor and notable Philosophy genius of his time, which was like centuries ago... but the guy had his share of problems, right? He needed this. But, I won't digress.
What really helped and enlightened me was the .pdf supplement that is available with the audio book. I found myself doing the exercises at each chapter end. It wasn't that I didn't understand the content in the chapters, they are told in a manner that is comprehendible - no problem, but doing the few exercises in the .pdf supplement was the icing on the cake. I got into it, I really did! And it brought me solace and internal peace at a time where I think we all need that.
The narrator was okay, but the content was exemplary. I fully recommend!!

What stands out about this book is the modern translation of this revered classic. The updated language makes the content clear and easy to follow, which is a big plus if you’re new to this kind of material.
I also appreciated the workbook exercises at the end of each chapter. They help you think about how Stoic ideas can fit into your everyday life. I’ve found myself reflecting more deeply and handling daily stresses better — which I wasn’t expecting from a philosophy book!
This book makes ancient philosophy accessible and relevant and is a great introduction to Stoicism. It’s easy to pick up, hard to put down, and even harder to forget. Highly recommend!

The book is thoughtfully divided into two parts: the modern translation of Meditations and a set of workbook exercises designed to help readers internalize and practice the principles of Stoic philosophy. The translation itself is clear and straightforward, capturing the essence of Aurelius' thoughts while avoiding overly archaic language. This approach makes it an excellent choice for those new to Stoicism, as well as for seasoned readers looking for a fresh perspective.
The workbook exercises are a standout feature of this edition. They provide practical guidance on how to implement Stoic principles in everyday life, offering readers a hands-on approach to cultivating virtues such as patience, resilience, and mindfulness. These exercises encourage reflection and action, bridging the gap between philosophical theory and practical application.
Overall, Meditations - A Modern Translation: With Workbook Exercises to Apply Stoic Philosophy is a valuable resource for anyone interested in Stoic philosophy. It successfully blends ancient wisdom with modern insights, providing both an informative and transformative reading experience. Whether you're a seasoned practitioner of Stoicism or just starting your journey, this book is sure to offer valuable lessons and inspiration.
