About this listen

Rebecca Amber knows what it’s like to lose all hope. That’s why she volunteers to help struggling teens, always taking along her giant, two-hundred-pound lapdog named Lilah. The Bull Mastiff loves the kids almost as much as Rebecca does. When an eerie stranger shows up on the streets with a new drug called Quell, Rebecca will have none of it. Little does she know that interfering with this drug dealer means taking on alien criminals far worse than anything she’s faced before—and they will not hesitate to eliminate her—and her pet.

Elite Hunter Stark is on Earth to stop a vicious alien gangster from setting up shop on the unsuspecting, primitive planet. Stark has a job to do and the last thing he needs is a mysterious woman haunting his dreams. She is more dangerous to his peace of mind than the outlaws he hunts. She keeps company with a clumsy, oversized, hairy creature she claims is a beloved pet. Worse, she refuses to back down from an enemy determined to kill her.

How will he defeat his enemies when he is consumed with the need protect her, touch her, and claim his MARKED MATE?

This is one of the shorter stories but ties in nicely with a previous book. Always a good read with Grace Goodwin!

The male narrator is absolutely awesome, but the female is AI at its worst.

When I read the series again, I will definitely read this one rather than listen! Made it really hard to get through with her voice!!!

Great story and male narrator - hard to listen to the female.

If you are reading book 24 in this series you probably have a good idea about what you are going to get story-wise. It’s not going to win any literary awards but it’s satisfyingly more of the same comfort read. I can’t decide if the female narrators issue is that she is not a native English speaker or an AI reader but the voice is gratingly high, the pronunciations are frequently not quite right and the tone and inflection choices are largely …. Wrong.
Definitely don’t pay for this book but if it’s free it may be worth listening for the sake of completeness if you’ve already read the other 23 books.

Terrible female narrator - Thankfully brief

Review of audiobook borrowed through Audible Plus.
Bad editing re locations.
Chapter 1: Earth Landing Site: Cleveland, Ohio at the beginning with Stark, then Miami, FL at the beginning of Rebecca’s story, then later chapters are back to Cleveland when they need to go to the Youth Center.
Elite Hunter Stark is sent to find Siren scum who set up shop on Earth selling Quell. His fellow Hunters are tasked with finding Siren Legion escapees from an Everian prison ship, who had help from their fellow operatives from Rogue Five. The Coalition protects the people of Earth, but doesn’t trust them. It turns out the Coalition really appreciates human women and negotiated the Bride Program in exchange for Earth’s protection from the Hive.
It would be a lovely little gem of a story but it also has Stark being TSTL by leaving the ship wide open for Rokor to get aboard. I was left with much frustration.
Re narration: Catalano works as narrator for Stark. Valentine is just a big NO! Too high pitched, to loud for the story, too sing-songy. She takes away from the audio of the story. Because of her, I must recommend the ebook or paper copy.
Please Note: whoever set up the ebook sample on Amazon included only the cover, credits and index; no story text whatsoever. Not one line.

Bad female narrator

The ladies performance was the weakest part of this story, usually the performers can pull me into the story, there was a disconnect with her performance.

I enjoyed this short story. The narrators did a very good work. Loved the addition of the dog in the story as I love cats and dogs.

Short but sweet

Although I thoroughly enjoy the lengthy books, I really enjoyed this story and the characters. It held my interest and didn’t drag out the suffering. Thumbs up to the romance!

First of these books to introduce a pet. The plot was very good and definitely had the bones for a longer storyline. Female narrator was the wrong one. Overall could have been a lot more enjoyable if longer.

Had the plot to be much longer

The female narrator is seriously annoying. She sounds like an AI is reading. The fluctuations of her voice are off. Doesn’t sound like a person would actually speak.

Annoying female lead.

I like the story but holy cow.... I can't take it any sort of seriously because of the female narration. I hope whomever chooses her to read another book thinks twice. "Thanks Ollie" 🤣

Trisha Takanawa, now reading books

Story is good but on the short side. Narration was flat, Kindle text to speech is comparable to the readers of this story.

Good story, bad narration
