About this listen

Mars: The Final Day is the first book in the Legacy of the Red Planet Series by J.R. Austin, a sci-fi that combines history and myth with science to tell the story of Ikara. The life of Ikara has been modeled around the Grand Cycle, the very source and summit of its spiritual life. And now, according to the GenSeer Marador, it is in danger, so Marador delivers a coded message to the one person who stands a chance of wielding the power and the influence that could save his people and the planet. But there is no time because the Candlefall will dramatically alter the life of Ikara.

What made the experience of listening to Mars: The Final Day the most enjoyable?

I like that the story is fast, you can listen to it in a matter of hours. While the story is fast, it does not feel rushed. You get a complete story, and a good feel for the history and people of Ikara.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I enjoy Jast. The weight of his peoples destiny is clearly one his shoulders, while some protagonists complain about their destiny, Jast accepts it, and makes the best of his situation. He is calm, and thoughtful. He makes mistakes like we all do.

What about Matthew Wiens’s performance did you like?

Matthew has a great voice, and I like his different accents for the 5 families. His Scottish and Irish sounding accents are the best.

Any additional comments?

I read the first edition of this book, this audio version is more polished than the first edition was. I am enjoying the evolution of this book, and looking forward to the rest of the books.
