About this listen

Even without a memory, the world is a dark and damned place.
There are things around us that regular people don’t know about....

I know those things.
I’ve done those things.
It’s the way of this world when you’re on the throne.
This temple is rightfully mine.
I am the crown.
This isn’t just my life.
It’s my soul.
My empire.
My fortress.
And her.

She’s too sweet, so innocent, so naïve to the world around her and I want to immerse myself in it.
But there is an ill twist hanging in the air.

Maximo is alive.
Unfortunately.
And I want him dead, but I am more devious than that.
My brother took too much from me.
I have to build everything from the ground up because he tarnished it.

Wow this book was super sexy 🔥🔥🔥

As the first in a spin off of the Ruthless Kings series I knew this wouldn't have a lot of action, but instead lay the groundwork for the upcoming books. There may not have been a lot of violence but there was certainly a lot of action going on in the hotel room, the bathroom, the dorm room...I think you get the picture 😉

Mateo has spent many months locked away in his own mind. After suffering life threatening injuries in a hotel bombing he has been in recovery with the Ruthless Kings Vegas chapter, unable to recall anything from his past life. When terrible events cause a rift in his family Mateo decides It's time to take matters into his own hands. As he tries to rebuild his life, distraction comes in the form of a naive young woman, Nora, who happens to be his daughter's new friend. Mateo is entranced by the sweet and innocent Nora and will stop at nothing to show his Stellina that they are meant to be together.

This was a surprisingly low angst story with lots of steam and sex. Nora may start out innocent but it's amazing how she opens up after a few intense encounters with Mateo.

The male narrator was new to me and initially felt a little old for the character, but he handled the content well and does a great job with the Italian language and accent (fair warning I am not fluent in Italian so this is just IMO from third party experience). There did seem to be a disconnect with the narration when Mateo wasn't actually talking (it seemed to be almost third person omniscient even though it was first person) because the accent was only present when Mateo spoke. This is a style I wasn't used to so it took a bit to get into it, but once I did it was fine. I have only heard the female narrator a few times so I knew she would do well with Nora. The writing and the performances worked well together and created a great framework for the new series. 4/5 story, 3/5 narration.

Answers We've Been Waiting For

We finally get some of the answers we've been waiting for. Mateo Moretti's story has been much anticipated since the end of Knives. We finally get to meet the real Mateo and Nora, his new love. So excited to get more of this new series to come out of the Ruthless Kings. The narration by Lucy Rivera and Antonio Amato give depth to the story through their voices.

Mateo’s story is amazing!

I absolutely LOVE Mateo’s story!! Mateo and Nora are complete opposites but that’s what draws them together! Antonio’s accent for Mateo is perfect and he really brings him to life! Lucy’s narrating for Nora is spot on and brings out the vulnerability of her character!

Mateo’s character has always been intriguing but getting to read/hear his story, it made me love and respect him more! The man is yummy!

I love Mateo

I absolutely love Mateo as a character and his parts in the series. This book was lacking something though. Honestly probably 75% of it was a sex which I do love the sex scenes that's why I read these books but there wasn't really any depth to it either. Nothing that's going to make me stop reading this series or would make me not recommend to people I just think that it also doesn't need to be read necessarily.

JUST NO.. AND SO DISAPPOINTING

Seriously, where the Hell was the suspense.. intrigue.. badass alphas.. interesting storyline with depth and unfolding layers? Where was the enjoyment meant to come from other than sex? What happened to the biker brotherhood and the Mafia lifestyle? It was just a 43 yr old Mafia Boss Mateo who sees his daughter’s 21 yr old friend and becomes absolutely besotted by the beautiful little virgin. It was instant lust, he has cameras everywhere in his apartment and watches her in the bath, he stalks her while she’s on Campus and declares his love one week in. Nope sorry revolves entirely too much around sex that felt like teenage sex. Therefore this story is just not for me.. it’s just sex, lust, a repetitive Italian pet name and little content other than what he wants to do to her.

Worth a credit? No sadly it’s not for me this time.. I really tried a few times to get into this story but unfortunately failed each and every time and I eventually stopped it towards the end because it was just more and more of the same lust-filled chapters. IMO, Antonio’s narration didn’t fit and he seemed too old for the part.. which may have made it more icky than sexy too. And, if you’re new to this author’s work - IMO, don’t start with this one.
