About this listen

'I can understand myself only in the light of inner happenings. It is these that make up the singularity of my life, and with these my autobiography deals' (Carl Gustav Jung)

In 1957, four years before his death, Carl Gustav Jung, psychiatrist and psychologist, began writing his life story. But what started as an exercise in autobiography soon morphed into an altogether more profound undertaking. The result is an absorbing piece of self-analysis: a frank statement of faith, philosophy, and principles from one of the great explorers of the human mind.

Covering everything from Sigmund Freud, analytical psychology, and Jungian dream interpretation to a forthright discussion of world myths and religions, including Christianity, Buddhism, and other religions, these final reflections on an extraordinary life are a fitting coda to the work of Carl Gustav Jung. It was Jung who observed and named key human characteristics such as the introvert, the extrovert, the animus, the anima, and other concepts such as archetypes (the wise old man, the mother), the collective unconscious, the complex and many more.

His studies took him into many fields—religion, anthropology, archeology and literature—which instructed his clinical work. This extraordinary breadth gave him a view of humanity and of culture that still resonates deeply.

Memories, Dreams, Reflections is a remarkable document showing a man of great depth, humility, and perspicacity. Once read, it is never forgotten.

Aniela Jaffé's introduction is read by Elizabeth Proud.

"Jung's single-minded humility, his passion to unearth truth, is one of the loveliest impressions to emerge from this absorbing and many-sided book." (The Times)

A classic

lt took me a long time to think about what l should write about my listening experience of this book. I feel that l have to write something because this book pushes me to do that. On the other hand, how could l write anything that even remotely reflects what l have been experiencing from this book of vast knowledge and profound inner reflection from one of the tallest intellectual giants of humankind? The narrator is great too, it feels like Dr. Jung himself speaking.

Extraordinary!

An incredible account of Jung’s life and work. Every bit of it drips with soul and magic and is alive with the intensity with which Jung lived his life. I absolutely love this book. I have read it more several times and every time its new with something i didn’t see or understand before. A whole lot came to light for me in this book after reading his Red Book. I am Grateful for Jung and this book.

Absolutely enthralling.

To discover one of the most intelligent, sensitive, introspective and unique personalities oir time in his own words and through his unique perspective is a true gift for the person open to learning and respecting what he had to teach us about that which mainly governs us: the unconscious.

Such a powerful work.

A great way to get to know Jung. Attention must be paid, because the ideas are always more than singular.
Beautiful performance.

A profound book

Rarely has a book impacted me in the way “Memories, Dreams and Reflections” has done. It is difficult to compare to any other book and Carl Jung was an astonishing person, unafraid and curious to explore where the topic lead him. And he did this with a sensitivity, perception, objectivity and intelligence that is a gift to humanity.
I wish the book could continue on and on - will certainly listen to it again.
It is also very well narrated.
Reccommending it in the strongest term.
Enjoy!
