About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Over 1 million Discworld audiobooks sold – discover the extraordinary universe of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld like never before

'What's so hard about pulling a sword out of a stone? The real work's already been done. You ought to make yourself useful and find the man who put the sword in the stone in the first place.'

The City Watch needs MEN! But what it's got includes Corporal Carrot (technically a dwarf), Lance-constable Cuddy (really a dwarf), Lance-constable Detritus (a troll), Lance-constable Angua (a woman... most of the time) and Corporal Nobbs (disqualified from the human race for shoving).

And they need all the help they can get, because someone in Ankh-Morpork has been getting dangerous ideas - about crowns and legendary swords, and destiny.

And the problem with destiny is, of course, that she is not always careful where she points her finger. One minute you might be minding your own business on a normal if not spectacular career path, the next you might be in the frame for the big job, like saving the world . . .

The Discworld novels can be listened to in any order but Men At Arms is the second book in the City Watch series.

'Funny, wise and mock heroic . . . The funniest and best crafted book I have read all year' Sunday Express

One of my favorite Terry Pratchett books

The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars for performance is because I feel like the way they do the footnotes takes you out of the story, however, I understand that footnotes the way Terry Pratchett does them poses a challenge with an audio book. If you enjoy Terry Pratchett, give it a listen, if you’ve never read Terry Pratchett, give it a listen.

I love Captain carrot and agua.

there is very little to dislike on the disc. Terry has a genius of dickensian size.

A bit more serious Disc world novel

Still very funny, but deeper. Who will be in charge when a murderer stalks Ankh-Morpork? We learn much about the Assassins, Beggars, and Fools Guilds. The Night Watch becomes the center, with new recruits of various species, Captain Vimes faces his approaching wedding, and a new murderous weapon is invented. in some ways this is a major step forward for the series, which was already great. A bit of a quibble on the narration -- The narrator has trouble when characters are supposed to be inarticulate, making them unintelligible instead. Otherwise, good.

Remember to read Guards!Guards! First

So much humor that it boils out if you in laughs. So be careful if you are trying to listen without being caught

Jon Culshaw did an amazing job performing!

This was a really enjoyable listen. The writing is top tier all around, never felt a dull moment in it. The performance was really well done! Probably the best reader in the 70-odd books i have listened through so far. Congratulation and thank you for your work! <3

A Pratchett masterclass couple with amazing performance

John Culshaw manages to nail every single voice he picks for every character. Add that to a stone cold classic Discworld story and you’re in for a very good time.
