About this listen

Some Talents are too dangerous to keep.

Mercy Strange - Genetic Research Lead, Strange Medical Technologies

There’s a madman who calls himself a scientist...and I have to stop him. Never mind that his med-magick drugs might be the key to my own research. Never mind that his red-and-yellow pill tempts me with the promise of turning off a Talent I’d give anything to erase. The madman developed his med-magick with an illegal drug trial, performing experiments on people like my father - and using my own family’s company to do it! The madman will pay for that, even if I have to hunt him down myself. I’ll train the FBI’s insanely sexy field agent to go undercover after the killer, but when this is done, I’ll be taking that pill...and finally destroying the part of me that’s too dangerous to keep.

Swift Payne - FBI, Science and Magick Lab

This is just another job. I keep telling myself that, but Mercy’s emotional soundscape sings to me like no other. There’s so much she’s hiding, just under the surface. She doesn’t know what I am - few people do - and it needs to stay that way. Because I’m not just following leads to find our serial-killer-by-drugs - I’m investigating her. And if she’s dirty in this, I’ll have to march her out in handcuffs. Or get yanked from the case. Or get sent back to the military work I barely escaped. Mercy’s dangerously tempting, but I can’t go back there again. Yet I can’t seem to tear myself away from the music of her oh-so-brilliant mind....

Someone’s developed a drug that can erase magickal Talents...and they need to be stopped before they kill anyone else. Swift’s Talent is secret, and Mercy’s secret is her Talent. But they have to work together to find the mad scientist with the killer drugs...before he unleashes them on the streets of Chicago.

The FBI case is heating up with magic altering drugs at its heart. In comes Swift Payne undercover psy-ops with a talent Mercy Strange is not expecting but she has secrets of her own. This book is filled with crazy twists that will keep you guessing at every turn. Good performance from both Summer Roberts and Alexander Cendese.

It is getting really exciting now!

Things really get exciting as Ever's sister Mercy tries to unlock the secrets of the drug that can turn on, or off, magical abilities. She is thrown for a loop when FBI agent Swift Payne shows up to work the case. He needs an in at the drug company the Strange family owns and where the drugs silently originated. He actually works for a secret section of the FBI and his talent is illegal so he is closely monitored. He "hears" emotions and can manipulate them. What he hears from Mercy intrigues him, and she is immediately on to him when he tries to manipulate her so that is a no-go. He can tell she is hiding something but he has no idea what.

Mercy has a talent that no one knows about but her, and she plans to keep it that way. She hopes this new drug will allow her to turn it off, if she can just figure out how the drug works. The more she and agent Payne learn the more concerned she is that this drug could change everything, and not in a good way. Meanwhile, her feelings for Swift grow she she has no idea what to do with them. She is aware that he too has secrets and they when this case is over he will be gone. She is also worried about her sister Verity who has gotten herself mixed up with a cult leader, a dangerous cult leader.

I won a copy of this audio book and am voluntarily reviewing it. I do own the ebook version. Can't wait to read the next one in the series.

Enjoyable but not earth-shattering

interesting story dealing with magical powers and the presumption that the magic was passed down in your genes.

Awesome

This is book 2 in the Strange series and is a stand alone book with wonderful HEA. I recommend this book to anyone who loves hot magical alphas. The narrator does a awesome job of each character. Really easy to listen to.

A big thumbs up for another engaging tale...

After finishing Ever Strange, the story ARC kept nagging at me, so I broke down and picked up the next one in the series, and I gotta say that these stories seem a tad formulaic! Again we have another bad boy monster, Swift Payne, watching Mercy (Ever's sister). To Swift, she's just another job assignment. He's yet another FBI agent, looking for evidence proving that Mercy's somehow involved in the manufacture of a highly illegal drug... But, holy gods, the story and the chemistry between them heats up quicker than a bar-room brawl on a Hot August night, while the story unfolds! So really, a big thumbs up for getting me past the beginning and writing another engaging story, but damn... it's left us clutching at the edge of a deep canyon!
I felt that Summer Roberts was a better storyteller than Alexander Cendese, 'cause he really needs a chill pill, or maybe a time out as he goes a little overboard...
I'm still intrigued by the overall series ARC and will prolly pick up the final book when the opportunity arrives...

Not as good as book 1

Mercy Strange
(Legal Magick #2)
by Alisa Woods
Narrated by: Summer Roberts, Alexander Cendese
I really enjoyed book one but I didn't enjoy this one as much. It seemed to have too much romance/lust in it. I don't mind that if the plot and characters are the main focus but I think they got lost a bit in this book. I still found the fantasy aspect interesting. I gave it 2 1/2 stars rounding up to 3.
Narration was fair at best.

Mercy and Swift

This is the second book about the incredibly talented Strange sisters. This story is about Mercy who specializes in Med Magic but has another talent, one she has kept hidden, even from her family. The story continues from where Ever's story left off with the FBI, SCIOPPS and the Strange family trying to track down the Resurrectionist who has managed to perfect a way of turning off, or on the talents of people in their community, but is also murdering innocent people.

Mercy is a flamboyant personality, she wears incredible clothes and very unusual makeup all to warn people off from trying to become too close to her. She is also brilliant at what she does within the Strange organization. It's become her job to analyze the data from all the bodies of the people the Resurrectionist has murdered in an attempt to break the code or learn how he or she can manipulate other people's magic.

Mercy is being forced to work with SWIFT PAYNE from the FBI, Science, and Magick Lab division, he will be going undercover, with her help to try and find the source of the drug used to aid the Resurrectionist. Swift also has a secret talent and it's because of this talent that he is being forced to work for the FBI. His talent is that he can read peoples emotions, not only that, he can influence them too and can make them do almost anything he wants.

The story is exciting, and compulsive as all avenues are investigated in an attempt to stop further deaths and defeat the evil being perpetrated. But, as with all of Alissa Woods stories we have an incredible love story too! Once Mercy and Swift discover each other's talents and give in to their attraction and feelings for each other there is no stopping them. They make a wonderful couple, Swift has never known love, not from his parents or anyone else and he would know as people cannot lie to him. Love is something he thought he would never have but the connection he feels for Mercy is strong and deep and his love is returned by Mercy. Whilst Mercy for her part has been afraid to love anyone because if anyone learned about her hidden talent they would leave her - but Swift doesn't leave, he accepts all of her and would lay down his life to make sure she was safe.

The chemistry between these two is palpable and so well documented by Alisa. The story is exciting and in it, we get to meet the third sister Verity who has become involved in some sort of cult, the leader of which is under suspicion by the FBI. We also touch base again with Ever and Zane.

The writing style is excellent and very descriptive and the narration by Summer Roberts and Alexander Cendese bring the book to life beautifully. I can hardly wait for Verity's story and the conclusion of this exciting tale.

I was given this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review which contains only my personal opinion.
