Publisher's summary

Being ripped from her mundane life by a swarm of police officers is not what Rae Chapin expected when she woke up this morning. Accused of a series of murders she didn’t commit, Rae doesn’t have anyone to rely on. Except him. Alec Bronson, the popular boy who broke her heart all those years ago - now a smoking hot man - is her only hope of proving her innocence and finding the person eager to kill everyone she loves.

It’s been two decades since Texas Ranger Alec Bronson last saw Rae. He shouldn’t get involved, but with one look at his childhood friend behind the steel bars and her proclamations of innocence, he’s convinced to take the case. The battle to keep his renewed feelings for the curvaceous woman hidden becomes impossible when the true killer emerges once again, targeting the only woman he’s ever loved.

Life-altering secrets are revealed as the evidence mounts, pointing toward the killer who’s determined to make Rae pay for her past. When confronted with the truth, Rae is forced to make a decision.

His life or hers.

If you love a little darkness, murder, and possessive alpha heroes with the need for control mixed into your suspense then this series is for you. Please note this book is for mature listeners due to detailed sexual content, foul language, discussion of abuse, and a killer who will stop at nothing.

Suspenseful, dash of drama and all heart… Alec 😍

In this book we get Texas Ranger Alec Bronson’s story.

Alec was living his lonely life after book 2… tired and in need of days off…he’s then forced to go back to Sweetcreek when he got a frantic phone call from his high school sweetheart, Rae Chapin.

Rae Chapin never left Sweetcreek, living a life of a recluse as death seem to touch every single person she was close to. When the small town police put her in holding for a disappearance of a local man and she uses her phone call to call Alec, who comes running.

The story is good! It’s different from the other book, I appreciated it… when reading that, I was intrigued by Alec and his story did not disappoint at all.

I loved Rae, at first, I didn’t even mind the focus on her body even though she didn’t seem to be thaaat fat… size 10-12? From how she was discussing it… that, isn’t fat 🙄 only thing I could think of when she kept saying “double digits” 🙄 like cool it…! It would be more understandable if she said double X or something… I was tired of stick thin characters but I guess complaining one is fat when they’re mainly “average” especially in the state where everything is supposedly bigger? Was a tad off… AND another complaint I had was, she was so great at first, normal person despite everything UNTIL almost at the end there where she gets herself in trouble… 🙄😫 could be more understandable if she went to the bathroom alone or something and the dude was waiting for her in the bathroom… had her climb out of the window or walk out but how it happened? (No arc, beta reader thought that was off?) The complete disregard for personal safety? (Especially when she did okay for 2 decades 🙄) Was so so annoying THEN she’s surprised when she gets in hot water and cries for the person she ran from… make it make sense please…
Oh, and she wants him to tell her everything, she trusts him but couldn’t tell him her “secret” this grates at me as it’s like a thing with almost all female protagonists in this genre… like why? I’m usually shocked when they don’t do this…

It didn’t take too too much out of the story…

But,

I think I also had questions, what “special tastes” did Alec have? Why did we get a taste of things and never delve into them? Like glimpses… it was sort of hinted at in the previous book then this…ugh did I miss it? I was dyiiiing to find out especially when he had the potential to bring a dirty talker… ah well… opportunity missed here…

And Charlie IS the voice of reason? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I hope he gets his happy ending too… I loved that book 2 had a teaser and solidified my getting this one immediately!

Anyway, all in all you will enjoy this story. If you like law and order/ FBI etc., you will definitely enjoy the drama and suspense… it wasn’t as spicy.

Worth a credit? Still, Yes.

Not quite as good as the first two of the series

I took one star off performance because there was something about the female narrator that just didn't feel right to me.
I took one star off the story because around chapter 21 the female lead irritated me for a few chapters. I felt like she was being hypocritical expecting unconditional trust when she wasn't giving the same. I also felt she was being irrationally impulsive. I would have taken off another star, but she realized her mistake quickly and I decided that her emotional trauma and life circumstances that started when she was a teen could impact social and emotional maturity.
I will listen to the next book, as I started wanting Charlie's story shortly after he was introduced in this book.

BUCKLE UP FOR THIS ONE!

Another page turner! Buckle up for this one, and hold on for the ride! Damn good story! I love the suspense and drama leading up to the sexy stuff. I especially enjoy how she introduces a hot new character in each book.

enjoyable

New author for me and it was an enjoyable second chance romantic suspense story. The plot moved at a good pace and I mostly enjoyed both characters.
I didn't find it to be Dark but just make sure you read the last paragraph of the blurb if you are worried.

Both narrators were excellent. However, as amazing and popular as Teddy Hamilton is, I didn't think he was the right voice choice for Alec - so that is where the 4-star performance came from. Virginia Rose was a voice good choice for Rae.

A different kind of stalker. A troubled but beautiful love story. A happy end! Nothing better. Narrators are great!
