Publisher's summary

Former Navy SEAL Nixon Swagger is home. After 12 years of service and twice as many deployments, all Nix wanted was quiet. He’d sought the solace of the land he’d grown up on and found the peace he needed to silence the noise and figure out his next move.

Nixon’s stay was supposed to be temporary. He wasn’t supposed to meet a feisty, headstrong woman who made his pulse race and set his body on fire. Falling in love hadn’t been part of his plan. Taking a government contract to stop a homegrown terrorist group hadn’t been, either, but when the organization threatens to attack Philadelphia, he had no choice but to accept.

McKenna Wilson was living. Every day was the same. Raising her two teenage siblings didn’t leave time for much else. Most days, she was okay with that. Then, she bumped into the sexy war hero and, in an instant, her world changed. She had no idea falling for Nixon would be so dangerous. Now, she was going head-to-head with the small-town’s dirty sheriff who was hell-bent on ruining Nixon and avenging a 15-year-old grudge. She’d lost her heart, but losing her life wasn’t part of the plan.

Nixon Swagger had learned a few things as a Navy SEAL - adapt, improvise, and overcome were among the many. In the middle of an inferno, so ominous even Dante wouldn’t buy a ticket, Nixon must adapt to his new surroundings and overcome multiple threats before he loses the woman he loves.

fantastic!

This is my first book by this author and it won't be my last! Awesome story and narration. Suspense, passion, and I really liked the push of the message against sexual abuse. Can't wait for the next book!

Nice small town suspense romance

My rating: 4.5

Heat: 7/10
Emotion 7/10
Story: 8/10
Characters: 8/10
Interest: 8/10
POV: Dual
No cheating

Nicely written, perfectly balanced romance and suspense. I liked how none of the two shdowed the other.
I really liked both the story and the characters (primary and secondary), so i am going to read (or listen to) the rest of the series.
There was action, steam, suspense, friends and family.
The narration was good, very expressive.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Intensely awesome/awesomely intense!

I listened to the audio version narrated by Joe Arden and Erin Mallon. Need I say more? It was fantastic!

This was my first by Riley Edwards and I was pretty impressed with her writing style and the intensity of the story. At first I was a little (quite a bit) put off by the way Nixon would verbally jump on McKenna's siblings. He had just met them and was telling them what they should and shouldn't do. I just didn't like it. They needed to straighten up, I just don't think it was his place to try to make the corrections, Navy Seal or not. It made him seem way too controlling.

That said, the rest of the story was high intensity Homeland Security Stuff and I loved that McKenna was given a part in taking down the bad guys and treated as a crucial part of the team by Nixon and the others on his team. The steam and the feelings between Nixon and McKenna were also really well done in the story. This was definitely a book that kept you listening intently to see just what was going to go down next. I reminded me a lot of books written by Stephanie St. Klaire--same intensity.

Thanks to Rebel's Romance and Valentine PR for the complimentary copy of this audiobook. All thoughts are my own.

Great start to the series

This series had been on my TBL for awhile, I’m working my way through all of Joe Arden’s books, and Erin Mallon paired with Joe is always amazing.

The story was great, the character development of the siblings was realistic, and the pace of the story felt right.

I prefer dual POV which this was but was third person and while I prefer first, this was written in a way that wasn’t distracting like it normally is for me.

The only issue I had was the “Teams” guys names all ended with an “N” (or most did) so it was difficult to who was who straight until later in the story. Looking forward to the remainder of the series, and others by this author.

I was provided a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Nixon's Promise

First for me by this author.
I was pleasantly surprised, to be honest with you I wasn’t sure what to expect but I sure did enjoy these characters.
McKenna has just become guardian to her two younger teenage siblings and it isn’t an easy transition.

Nixon lives next door and fines out that his new next door neighbour is McKenna and her siblings.
I love that he takes her brother under his wing.

It did feel a little like insta-love but I am not mad at it because so much happens from the time they meet until the end of the book it’s understandable why we get that feeling.

I like that McKenna understands Nixon’s job what was great was how McKenna became an asset to the team too. I wasn’t expecting that and quiet liked it.

Narration, I love Erin’s narration she just does the voices so well she gives everyone their own sound I love it. Joe isn’t my favorite but I still enjoy his work.
Think I might have to invest in the rest of the series.

Suspenseful and Amazing

“Nixon’s Promise” is an action packed, emotional and steamy start to the “Gemini Group” series and I’m all for this series.

McKenna is now the guardian to her two younger siblings when their parents passed away and she’s trying to find the middle ground as sibling and now caregiver. One day in town she meets the elusive former Navy SEAL, Nixon Swagger. Nixon is back in town to clean up his father’s farm but has an instant connection to McKenna. The two develop a friendship that quickly evolves into something more. When Nixon’s friend, Alec, makes an unannounced visit, he needs his help with a threat that no one can figure out. Nixon calls in help from some former teammates and McKenna lends her computer expertise.

This story grabbed me from the beginning and I could not let go until the very end. Nixon is classic protective Alpha qualities which I loved. He’s got the tough guy look on the outside but is softie on the inside who would do anything for his friends and family. McKenna is a certified baddie who took on two teenagers and the bad guys as well. The story is action packed and well paced. We get little glimpses of the new crew and I know their stories are going to be just as awesome.

Joe Arden and Erin Mallon were so good as Nixon and McKenna. Joe is amazing at bringing all the growliness of Nixon alive as well as his vulnerability. Erin Mallon never disappoints with her performances and I always count on her for great narration.
