About this listen

In L.A. Banks' latest Vampire Huntress Legends novel, Minion, there is one woman who is all that stands between us and the eternal night.

Here is an account of her legend....

All Damali Richards ever wanted to do was create music and bring it to the people. Now she is a Spoken Word artist and the top act for Warriors of Light Records. But come nightfall, she hunts vampires and demons - predators that people tend to dismiss as myth or fantasy. But Damali and her Guardian team cannot afford such delusions, especially now, when a group of rogue vampires have been killing the artists of Warriors of Light and their rival, Blood Music.

Strange attacks have also erupted within the club drug-trafficking network and drawn the attention of the police. These killings are a bit out of the ordinary, even for vampires. No neat puncture marks in the neck to show where the life's blood has been sucked from the body. These bodies have been mutilated beyond recognition, indicating a blood lust and thirst for destruction that surpasses any Damali has encountered before.

Damali soon discovers that behind these brutal murders is the most powerful vampire she has ever met, and this seductive beast is coming for her next. But his unholy intentions have also drawn the focus of other hellish dark forces. Soon Damali finds herself being pulled deeper into the vast and horrifying vampire world.

Awesome Series

What did you love best about Minion?

I love the story arc. LA Banks has always been very good about writing compelling stories about the supernatural that keep you captivated.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Minion?

Of course the first time Damali goes on her first hunt. Just the way she transitioned and the way Rider freaked out were awesomely described in great detail. I felt like I was there for the ride.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator was good though I would have preferred to hear someone else who could the different ethnic accents better. It took away a lot for me.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely!

Any additional comments?

I discovered LA banks on a whim late one night while browsing the book section of Walmart. The cover to 'Minion' looked intriguing so I bought the book and have bought every single one since. I had the pleasure of meeting her before her passing and told her just how much I loved the stories and Damali.

Good book. Worst choice of reader possible

I remember this book from when it was new, something made me think of it this weekend so I spent a credit.
Wow.
I don’t know who cast this but that individual needs to seek therapy and new employment. She is the flattest, whitest, voice I’ve ever heard - and I’m from Iowa, her attempts at AAVE are beyond comprehension.
Audible - please re-record this with a southern black lady reading

great story, versatile narrator

I enjoyed the book very much. The narrator did a good job. the book is set in a time and place with a lot of slang and at first I was not sure how the narrator would pull it off, but it did not take long to get wrapped up in the story.

Idk if it’s really worth the credit

The narrator wasn’t too bad but she definitely wasn’t a bahni Turpin. The overall story was interesting but the narrator can make it go either way. Overall it was ok ..

surprisingly religious and rapey...

Reactions:

Beginning: okay we are hunting vampires cool cool.
Middle: oh. Every time I think I know what’s gonna happen I’m wrong. That’s kind of nice.
End: well that’s gross. The vampire's motivations are a bit rapey...

This audiobook doesn’t seem as though it has all the chapters.

This audiobook only has 7 chapters. Chapter 7 doesn’t seem to be the end. Also, in the chapters, you would hear the same sentence read twice. Very poorly done.

LA Banks super fan

l love this series I had read all nine books about 10 years ago. However the narrator was not to my liking. But I love this book and series. Please finish narrating the entire series.

love this series!

This is a great story. It is not loaded with sex and all of the vampires aren't just humans with a little bite problem. Minion only scratches the surface of a story and vampires aren't even the tip of the iceberg.

I only have one problem with the audiobook (note the 3 star rating instead of 4). I have read most of the series and have a definite of idea of what a young black spoken word performer from Louisiana should sound like.

After having listened to the Anita Blake and Sookie Stackhouse series' along with Laurell K. Hamilton's Merry Gentry series, I've come to appreciate how important the correct narrator is to the story. I think Ms. Huber does a pretty good job of reading, for the most part, but too many times she sounds like a suburban house wife when 3/4 of the characters in the story are from inner city Louisiana and Southern California. This story needs someone that sounds more urban so that when a character says "...lost his natural black mind..." it sounds authentic and not as if the narrator studied urban lingo a few hours before hand.

Great book buuut..

The book as a whole is an absolutely AMAZING book, much like the late author. However the person chosen for this book is an absolutely TERRIBLE fit. Her voice, tone, and even attempted voices for the characters aren’t in the least fitting for the black and poc characters in the story. Her voice is a nice one just NOT for this book.
