Publisher's summary

On the evening of December 4, 1978, Rocky Mountain Airways Flight 217 departed Steamboat Springs, Colorado bound for Denver with 22 souls on board. Less than an hour later, the flight was forced down on Buffalo Pass at an altitude of 10,500 feet when it encountered severe icing conditions and downdrafts created by the winds of a mountain wave. The tragic accident triggered one of the most intense search and rescue efforts in Rocky Mountain history.

This true story is told in the words of the courageous passengers and crew - who found themselves struggling to survive the arctic type blizzard conditions with no hope of immediate help - and the heroic search and rescue personnel who risked lives to save lives. Led by an elite Civil Air Patrol unit, with the assistance of other rescue units and civilian volunteers, the search and rescue effort is considered one of the most successful in Civil Air Patrol's history.

Buffalo Pass Miracle

Excellent story, excellent. As a Member of CAP I enjoyed learning of CAP’s involvement in this life saving mission.

The narrative suffers from what sounds like a WW2 radio reporter. It wore thin after about 3 minutes. Otherwise an excellent remembrance of survival and the heroic human spirit at its best, but most unexpected timing.

An airline crash saga.

The author does a great job reliving the agony of an airline crash, in blizzard conditions in the northern mountains of Colorado. Highlighting the efforts of all the first responders involved, plus the heroic deeds of a few able passengers, makes for a great learning experience for the reader.

Amazing detail on every account of the events.

I realy enjoyed listening to this story. The author, a pilot, gave such details on the weather, the equipment and aviation issues. The story offers perspectives from the crew, the passengers and their families. You start to feel like you to are waiting to hear if your loved ones have survived. This is a great story of the human spirit and the community that risked their own lives to help with the very difficult rescue.

Amazing True Story

Spellbinding account of the tragic loss of an airliner in the Rocky Mountains. Occurring n the dead of night and in the middle of one of Winter’s worst snowstorms, this book tells what real life heros are made of. Superbly narrated be Tom Block.

Terrible narration

Narrator is the worst I've heard on any Audible book. Voice is slurred and sounds almost computerized. This was a good story but difficult to listen to because of the poor quality of narration
