About this listen

Miss Julie by August Strindberg. Presented by the Online Stage.

Miss Julie is probably the most famous play by the Swedish playwright August Strindberg, one of the founding fathers of naturalistic theater. In this claustrophobic drama, the interplay between social order and individual identity is explored in great detail. At the end the aristocratic Julie, goaded by her manipulative manservant, John, is faced with the ultimate decision: independence or annihilation.

Cast: Amanda Friday as Julie; Ed Humpal as John; Eileen Tipping as Christine.

Stage directions read by Denis Daly.

Music and sound effects provided and prepared by Ed Humpal and Eileen Tipping.

If you’re trying to learn about the play and Strindberg, then this audiobook would succeed in getting the story across to you. If you’re looking for entertainment, then it’s worth noting that the performance is lacking and the story is morally questionable, so I wouldn’t recommend it.

This was a "funky" production. The actresses were fine, but the actor could not act.

melodramatic

The play itself is great but the performers are wooden. The narrator also lacks any emotional helf (as tends to be the case with his kind of performance). The play deserved better then this.

Terrible performers and narrator

It's like listening to AI produced voices. I hope they are AI, because the actors are so terrible.
