About this listen

When a British heir hunter fails to return home after a trip to Malmö, Inspector Anita Sundström doesn't want to get entangled in a simple missing persons case. She shows a similar reluctance when her ex-husband begs her to find his girlfriend, who seems to have disappeared. But when the mysteries take a sinister turn, Sundström finds herself inextricably involved in both baffling affairs, one of which seems to be connected to a robbery that took place 20 years earlier. As the cases begin to unravel, tragedy awaits the investigating team.

Must be selling for the main reason I bought it: drafting on other Scandinavian works.

Disappointed. Awkward exposition. Trite villain.

Good old solid police work story.
Well told. Well presented.
Read the first two in the series.
Am going to read them all.

Loved Missing in Malmo

I liked this title better than Murder in Malmo which was my introduction to Torquil MacLeod' s Sundstrom series. The plot flows smoothly, the murder that almost slips quietly slips off the pages is teased into a a very good mystery. Lots of interesting tidbits on life in Sweden kept me interested. I recommend this one.

It is difficult to explain why this trilogy ended up being so gripping. The story-lines were, to varying degrees, predictable from fairly early on in each of the three books.
And yet..... The central character was captivating, and although a bit prone to cock-ups, her profound decency shone through and ultimately wins.

Interestingly, the author pinches a few touches from other Scandinavia-Crime books, (eg: her Islamic side-kick), but it's an enjoyable series of books and this last one was definitely the best of the bunch.

Up to this book, by far and away the largest negative was the narration, which had been awful. The last book sees an improvement in that respect, although her constant mispronunciation of place names continues (eg: the W in Keswick is silent). But in this last book, there are less stumbles with sentence structures.

Overall.. An easy good listen.

The best of the trilogy....and better narration as well!
