About this listen

Thirty years ago, the world as we know it was lost.

Now humans live like rats, desperate for food and safety, the wall towering before us as a mocking reminder of what happened.

Some are born into privilege and wealth, and I am one of those. I spend my days trying to change the world we live in and fighting for the truth as any good scientist does. However, when I am thrust through the wall, I have to fight just to survive.

Hurt, alone, and scared, I run smack into one of the very creatures we are taught to fear—a monster. But this monster is intent on protecting me, even as I fear him.

Together, we must delve into the past to find the truth behind the monster's creation, the truth behind what happened all those years ago. When we do, it changes my entire future. The world crumbling around me, I cling to the only honest thing I find—him.

When the humans decide they want their research and their scientist back, I am ripped from the safety of his arms. Once more fighting to survive, I promise to find the truth, even if it costs me my life.

With my monster at my side, I will untangle the lies to find the truth, and when I do, this whole monstrous plan will come unraveled.

Monstrous Truths is the second book in the Forgotten City series. Each book can be listened to as a standalone, but the series is best enjoyed in order.

great continuation!

I'm normally partial to the badass, strong, capable, and independent FMCs, so I wasn't sure how I'd feel about this one. I'm happy to say I enjoyed it. Seeing Talia grow into herself and recognize her strengths and weaknesses without it being the helpless FMC thing was great. She has an inner strength that comes out in this book. Worth the read, can't wait to read book 3!

Even better than the first book!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙💚❤️💜💖
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌍🌎
Character development: 🤓😉☺️😍🥰
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Talia - she comes from the wealthy part of the town in a post-apocalyptic world where the apocalyptic event was a huge war between monsters and humans. The monsters were winning the war, so humans built a wall around the city and now the monsters are stuck in the city. Humans thought they would starve them out, but the monsters thrive in the city. Talia is a scientist who wants to make the world a better place, especially for the poor. Her bosses say she can start doing that work, if she sneaks into the city and goes to a lab and gets them the research data they left behind.

The Hero: Cato - He was trained as a warrior monster, but ended up leaving that group because he was interested in learning everything he could about their species and the humans. He gradually moved up and is now the leader of the group of thinkers.

The Story: Talia is captured by Cato and finds out that she has been lied to her entire life. The monsters are not aliens that came down and fought against humans, they were created by her bosses and the humans they worked with. They were genetically altered humans, grown in the lab, experimented on, tortured and were only fighting for their freedom. That her bosses and the human military have never stopped and plan on doing even worse and they don’t want word to get out about what they have done and are doing.

I didn’t think I would like this one as much as the first since I knew a lot of the scenes would be the same as in the first book Monstrous Lies, but I ended up liking it even more than the first. I really liked the characters and I loved the fact that this one was centered around science, research and knowledge.

So many books like this with monsters, or aliens are centered around warriors and fighting, which the first book was like. This one was completely different and I really liked Talia and Cato and the world Cato lives in which was actually pretty different than the world Akuji lives in, though they live in the same city.

I loved all the action in this book and the fact that they were doing research and looking into what the company was trying to do when the created the monsters and what they were working on when the war began 30 years ago. This book was interesting from the very beginning and it kept me intrigued throughout the story.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Tor Thom and Kasi Hollowell. I love Tor Thom, he has a super deep voice which works great for the monsters in this series. Kasi Hollowell has a nice voice and is great at showing her emotion through her voice.
