About this listen

Colleen McCullough captivated millions with her beloved worldwide best seller The Thorn Birds. Now she takes listeners to the birth of modern Australia with a breathtaking saga brimming with drama, history, and passion.

Following the disappearance of his only son and the death of his beloved wife, Richard Morgan is falsely imprisoned and exiled to the penal colonies of 18th-century Australia. His life is shattered, but Morgan refuses to surrender, overcoming all obstacles to find unexpected contentment and happiness in the harsh early days of Australia's settlement.

From England's shores to Botany Bay and the rugged frontier of a hostile new world, Morgan's Run is the epic tale of love lost and found, and the man whose strength and character helped settle a country and define its future.

The story and performance were fantastic however I wish you had been unabridged. It was a bit hard to follow all of the characters since it was a shorter version.

great story, but hard to follow

This book was recommended to me, & I was looking forward to "reading" it. The writing & narration are more than competent, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. By the end, I had decided my friend was wrong, & this was just a superficial treatment of what should have been an epic tale. When my friend was baffled by my complaints about how huge events were glossed over, I decided to go back to Audible and read the description -- sure enough, this is an abridged version. Its being abridged is not shown on the cover, nor is it listed with the title. & because I was reading it on recommendation, I skipped the description and missed this important info. As a result, I can't rate the story or writing of the actual book fairly, but this version of it is definitely a miss.

Stealth Abridged Version

I was SO LOOKING FORWARD to eventually seeing this book come out on Audible. When it did, I immediately bought it and with great expectations took it to work with me. What a joke! As I sat working and listening, I kept having to stop and go back a chapter or two, because I thought I must have missed this part or that part - but NOPE, I did not miss it. THE BOOK WAS JUST MISSING HUGE CHUNKS OF DIFFERENT CHAPTERS!!! I have read the hardback book about 10 times; I love Colleen McCullough's books and this is one of my favorites! TO HAVE IT MASSACRED THIS WAY IS BEYOND WRONG! If I wanted half of the book cut out, I would go ask Readers Digest to send me a condensed version, or I could just go to my bookshelf and start randomly ripping out sections of each book!
I will not purchase any more books from Audible, until I can verify that the entire book is there!

ROBBED!

I was VERY disappointed that this was an abridged version and not advertised as so. I kept wondering if it was as I would progress through the book, but I couldn't see anywhere on the title details that it was abridged. Only until the end credits was it disclosed. I'm sure the story itself was better than I could give it credit for, but I would have to actually read the book to be sure. But having already listened to this version in its entirety and knowing what takes place, I won't be doing that. Total bummer. However, Tim Curry was fantastic.

THIS IS ABRIDGED!!!
