About this listen

“A masterpiece that can compare with Steinbeck’s East of Eden. … Some books make you laugh; some make you cry; some make you think. The Prince of Tides is a rarity: It does all three.” — Detroit Free Press

A modern American classic and a family saga that spans decades, this is the story of the volatile Tom Wingo, his brilliant but troubled twin sister, Savannah, and the complex and damaging family legacy they share. Moving between the sparkling glamour of New York City and the vanishing beauty of the South Carolina low country, The Prince of Tides is Pat Conroy’s masterwork.

“A big, sprawling saga of a novel…the kind you hole up with and spend some days with and put down feeling you have emerged from a terrible, wonderful spell.” San Francisco Chronicle

“A literary gem . . . The Prince of Tides is in the best tradition of novel writing. It is an engrossing story of unforgettable characters.” —The Pittsburgh Press

Was the book better than the movie? About 100% better. So much was left out. I loved this book from beginning to end. It’s funny, sad, violent but most of all truly entertaining about a dysfunctional family. Great narration. I highly recommend this book and don’t know how I’ll ever find another book to top this one.

Best book ever! No spoilers here.

I have not read a Pat Conroy book that does not flow like honey off of the pages and this one continues the streak.

The narrator has made a wonderful book even more so and I believe is a perfect fit for this book.

A literary gem

The stories Conroy wrote were immensely complex, heart wrenching and poignant. Though they may be a bit hokey at times, his mastery of human nature and the English language will always seduce the reader. His understanding and celebration of the South is unmatched and I encourage his works to be enjoyed by all.

An amazing epic written by a great American author!

This was a really good book, it was just too long. I got to a point where I just wanted it to be over. Fantastic author, narration suffered through a horrible rendition of a southern accent. would I recommend? yes.

Really good for a while.

I loved how it painted a vivid picture of the low country and all its inhabitants.

Don’t want to give any spoilers away here but, thoroughly enjoyed more of what happened to Luke.

If you loved the movie, you’ll love the book more ♥️

Unbelievably beautifully written. The narrator was spot on as Tom, but as the female characters he was spot off.

Gorgeous story.
