About this listen

Beautiful and new in town, Ellen Langston-Jones doesn't have any enemies. So, when she's found dead in the communal gardens, Inspector Witherspoon quickly narrows the field of suspects down to one: Lucius Montague, who was seen threatening Mrs. Langston-Jones shortly before her death.

The Inspector and all of London are positive that he's the killer, but Mrs. Jeffries has doubts. Her biggest problem is that Lucius Montague is a very disagreeable character and no one - including Inspector Witherspoon's staff - is inclined to save his skin. Now, she must turn the tide of the investigation...or watch an innocent man take the fall for the real killer.

Wiggins is Maggie Simpson

Jennifer Dixon is good, but not as astute a voice actor as the prior reader of the Mrs Jeffries books (Lindy Nettleton ?). The most jarring is the voicing of Wiggins, who sounds like a ten year old boy but is currently 23 in the series, not unlike the Simpsons who never age.
Lindy was more nuanced and Wiggins voice aged as the character aged. Jennifer often makes mistakes, in that she overlaps voices; the voice of the maid becomes the voice of the cook, etc. I’m still impressed by Dixon’s work, as keeping the separate characters’ voices homogeneous throughout is difficult, or it would be for me, anyway, and I love reading aloud, becoming the characters in the book. A vicarious life, is loving books and stories and I appreciate the artistry of creating an audiobook experience. I just wish Lindy could have finished the series. Anyone know why she didn’t?
