About this listen

"Narrator Petrea Burchard is delightful in this entertaining comic crime drama." - AudioFile

Mrs. Plansky's Revenge
is bestselling author Spencer Quinn's first novel in a new series since the meteoric launch of Chet and Bernie—introducing the irresistible and unforgettable Mrs. Plansky, in a story perfect for book clubs and commercial-fiction listeners.

Mrs. Loretta Plansky, a recent widow in her seventies, is settling into retirement in Florida while dealing with her 98-year-old father and fielding requests for money from her beloved children and grandchildren. Thankfully, her new hip hasn’t changed her killer tennis game one bit.

One night Mrs. Plansky is startled awake by a phone call from a voice claiming to be her grandson Will, who desperately needs ten thousand dollars to get out of a jam. Of course, Loretta obliges—after all, what are grandmothers for, even grandmothers who still haven’t gotten a simple “thank you” for a gift sent weeks ago. Not that she's counting.

By morning, Mrs. Plansky has lost everything. Law enforcement announces that Loretta's life savings have vanished, and that it’s hopeless to find the scammers behind the heist. First humiliated, then furious, Loretta Plansky refuses to be just another victim.

In a courageous bid for justice, Mrs. Plansky follows her only clue on a whirlwind adventure to a small village in Romania to get her money and her dignity back—and perhaps find a new lease on life, too.

Critic reviews

"I absolutely adored this book. Really fun but with a few teeth, as well. Mrs. Plansky is a terrific character. The story ticks along like a good watch."—Stephen King

"Mrs. Plansky's Revenge is a triumph that pits an original, memorable, and deeply human protagonist against a plausible threat, then takes us on an unexpected, thrilling, and satisfying journey. Heartfelt, thoughtful, and always suspenseful."—Michael Koryta, New York Times bestselling author of An Honest Man

"Mrs. Plansky is a wonderfully memorable heroine, full of wit and equally plausible as an ace tennis player and a motorcycle-driving detective with Romanian gangsters hot on her tail. Readers will be eager to see what Mrs. Plansky gets up to next."Publishers Weekly

Grandmothers of the world, unite

I really like this ole woman. She remained a lady through her ordeals. She didn’t peal off her ole lady disguise to over come obstacles but rather she stayed in her lane with wit and wisdom from decades of life. I want to be here when I grow up. I’m 70.

must read/listen!

Spencer Quinn is the absolute bomb. I know this going in and bought the book as soon as it came out, synopsis unnecessary. Charming, funny completely relatable. Don't miss out!

A sense of adventure, wonder & humor.

The plot is totally improbable.
At the same time it's great fun.
Spencer Quinn, thank you

Fun listen

I really enjoyed the easy, relevant (though implausible) and fun listen with a sweet ending! Excellent narration!

loved it

I seldom laugh out loud, but I did as I listened to this story. The plot was very relatable, an elderly lady getting scammed out of all her money.

Spencer Quinn is always so much fun!

I found the beginning a little slow and worrisome. That's probably because I'm in the same age range as Mrs Plansky.
But in the end, it was just a delightful ride. Highly recommend.

A bit too unrealistic

The book starts out almost too realistic and then slips away into what reminded me of Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys. Despite the totally unrealistic and somewhat ridiculous situations it was still enjoyable. Spencer Quinn (aka Peter Abrahams) is a talented writer. I loved the "Chet and Bernie" series for their sheer entertainment and imagination of the author. I'm sure many readers will enjoy this book, but it is quite a bit different than "Chet and Bernie".
