About this listen

Iggy is a dog who doesn’t get out much, so it’s big news when elderly Mr. Parsons knocks on Bernie’s door to say that Iggy has vanished. In the search for Iggy, Chet and Bernie find Mrs. Parsons unconscious on her bedroom floor, in need of urgent medical care. But it’s only when they arrive at the hospital that things get really interesting. With a jewel thief making short work of hospital patients’ valuables, it seems that Iggy is not alone in disappearing right out from under somebody’s nose. Suspects are plentiful and witnesses are few. But when little Iggy reappears, tail wagging, it turns out he holds the key to solving the entire affair. In addition to a clever caper and the return of much-beloved characters, this gem of a short story is a testament to the enduring power of friendship in all its forms: neighbor to neighbor, man to dog, dog to dog. Here is a treat you’ll devour in one sitting - rather like Chet with a juicy steak that’s been momentarily left unattended!

Good little story, lots of good Chet narration, and nice stuff about old neighbors and sweet, spirited terrier Iggy.

Chet and Bernie, what’s not to like?

I'm trying not to be greedy here, but I love the Chet and Bernie stories, and the last couple have only been short stories (the Chet "prequel" and now this darling little Iggy tale). I'm happy for every word, line and paragraph that Spencer Quinn writes. He captures a way of"Dog-Think" that is at times very funny, and at other times really quite poignant, even philosophical, imagining the world from a dog's perspective. But I sure miss the longer books.

This one involves the neighbors. The wife is hospitalized, and somehow Iggy gets loose on the floors of the hospital and can't be found. Which is the setup for Chet and Bernie to solve a little mystery on the side, as they search for Iggy.

If you have never listened to any from this series, this would be okay. But if you are a long time fan of The World According To Chet, as I have been for quite some time, I think this works better to be heard after already knowing the characters. As always, Jim Frangione narrates very well. I have never read a Chet and Bernie book in paper form, so Mr. Frangione IS Chet to me. It is an adorable series. Chet is both smart and at times, hilarious. For something light, this whole series is really fun.

But, please, Mr. Quinn, how about another full-length book?

It's great--give us more, please!

Good as an introduction,, but the longer adventures are more engaging. However, Chet is a great narrator!

Any additional comments?

As with all Bernie and Chet stories the narration is great and Chet is entertaining. There just wasn't much story to be developed in an hour of listening. It was clearly marked as a short story so it's not like there was any deception about what was purchased. Buyers have to judge for themselves if they want to spend it on such a short listen.

Very Short
