About this listen

Single mother Samantha Dean doesn't have time for Christmas. Or romance, for that matter. She is weeks away from opening her own catering business, the most important part of her plan to provide her certified genius daughter Patty with all the wonderful things she deserves.

Except Patty doesn't want to go to a fancy boarding school. She wants a father and when she meets bartender Murphy O'Rourke at her fourth grade Career Day presentation, she knows she's met the man of her mother's dreams!

But can she convince her Mrs. Scrooge of a mom that it was time to give Christmas - and love - a second chance?

Lovely story and exellent narration.

I wanted to try a Barbara Bretton novel and MRS. SCROOGE was conveniently on the Escape Package. And lucky me, when I started listening I discovered the narrator, Christa G Lewis, is one of my favourites I usually seek out under another name. Oh, happy! Christa G Lewis performed beautifully (as usual).

MRS. SCROOGE was a delightful, clean romance, expertly narrated, and a pure delight for the most part. Although it’s only about 6.5 hours of listening, it started to feel a bit long. I stopped, listened to something else and came back to it with enthusiasm to finish off. I can’t say why I needed the break, but if you find yourself feeling the same, I recommend returning to the story as it is satisfying and sweet. It’s the first in a series, but a stand-alone. I am looking forward to the next one because I enjoyed this, and because the same narrator is employed for book 2.

Not my usual...but I loved it!

I usually like romances that are fast paced, hero and heroine saving each other from danger lurking around every corner. This book isn’t it; it’s primarily the angst of two opposites attracted to each other, with a seemingly insurmountable possibility of a happily ever after stemming from diametrically opposed differences in personalities, divergent life goals, etc. And this book is exactly that. But instead of being slow paced, irritating to the point of wanting to just shake the lovers into a modicum of sense, I found I couldn’t stop listening until I finished the story. At no point did I lose interest, or have a “hurry up and get it done” mindset. I’ll definetly try the author again.

Great Christmas and all time romance

This was such a nice, sweet Christmas romance. Sam and Murphy are great characters but I loved Patty the most. This story was fun, lighthearted, sad at times, but mostly filled with hope and love. The narrator was fantastic, she has a really lovely voice that was perfect for this type of story and I love how she read Patty’s part.

Cute Christmas Story

Cute story. I enjoyed the narrators performance. I’m planning on following up on this series to see what comes next.
