About this listen

Accustomed to both murder and dalliance, Australia's favourite detective, the inimitable Miss Fisher, returns in a case that will test her tact and judgement to the full.

When the redoubtable Miss Phryne Fisher receives threatening letters at her home, she enlists the unflappable apprentice Tinker to investigate. But as the harassment of Phryne threatens to spin out of control, her lover, Lin Chung is also targeted.

Meanwhile, Dot begins to fear that her fiance, newly promoted Sergeant Hugh Collins, has gone cold on setting a date for their wedding. Phryne's clever daughters, Ruth and Jane, begin their own investigation into suspiciously dwindling funds when they are sent to help at the Blind Institute.

None of this is quite enough to prevent Phryne from accepting an invitation to a magnificent party at the house of the mysterious Hong. When the party is interrupted by shocking tragedy, Phryne gathers all of her unerring brilliance to track down the miscreants. With some unlikely assistance, Phryne is in a race against time to save a pair of young lovers from disgrace and death.

The younger ones get involved.

As always, I just adore her stories. I love her open-mindedness, her lack of preaching, her sense of right and wrong, her humor, her portrayal of women, and the way to be a good human being in this universe. All while having a protagonist who, defies the bounds of convention and is ultimately comfortable with herself.

Kerry Greenwood fan

I have read/listened to every Kerry Greenwood book I have been able to find. I was so pleased to find Murder in Williamstown. Wendy Bos voice is wonderful. I highly recommend reading all of the Phryne Fisher books, preferably in order as the stories grow on each other. I also highly recommend Ms Greenwood’s Corinna Chapman series.

Hood

I guess this is the last book in the series and so sad. But it is as really good with murder and suspense as usual

What Were They Thinking

I am currently debating whether to return this book or not. The switch of narrator is completely distracting. It is so bad that it is hard to get the sense of the characters and story. It makes it feel like a completely different author. If I finish it, and decide not to return it, I will not buy any more in this series if they do not go back to the original narrator.

A lovely addition to the series, although I miss the old narrator.

The narrator is not the unparalleled Stephanie Daniel, but she has most sadly passed beyond the word of earthly narration. So we must find it within our selves to new voices for our beloved characters. This rendition sadly lacks the utter confidence and effervescent Britishness of her work, but when viewed for its own merit as opposed to in contrast it is not a bad reading. (I do remain however ever prejudiced on the subject).

The story is excellent. And I could not recommend it more highly to anyone who enjoys mystery and adventure and strong minded characters, and a story which you can take utter confidence in turning out well and maintaining a sense of positivity and philosophical groundedness throughout.

So excited for another book.

This was another great addition to the Miss Fisher series. Thank you for continuing to write her stories.

Why after 21 books do they change narrators

Narrator has a breathless delivery that makes it hard to follow. The story is ok but seems to lack the normal style of all the previous stores. The characters seem to act out of there usual way.

Narrator is terrible

It was hard to listen to this narration. The voice sounds like AI. Almost no effort is made to distinguish the characters’ voices. It really ruined this book for me.

not like the previous ones

this book goes a ways further in time since the last book available here. I heard several continuity errors, how Jane lost her plat, Miss Fisher's gun being gold instead of pearl handled, but these are minor details. the over arching mystery is a touch more cloak and dagger than the previous entries. It is still an excellent read though. Minor mysteries are allowed to her wards which I approve.
