About this listen

Los Angeles is booming. Money is pouring in. Buildings are going up. But someone is killing architects.

Detective Sam Carver journeys through sins scattered across the City of Angels, where hipsters, homeless, immigrants, producers, politicians, movie stars, and cops collide in mysterious ways. Every move Carver makes is anticipated by the killer, Dylan Cross. She has hacked his computer and knows his diaries and secrets. She sees in him a kindred and damaged spirit, a man who can understand her crimes, heal her scars, and love her. Dylan is reclaiming herself from a past of brutal injustices inflicted by a world of misogyny and power. Detective Carver is dealing with his own troubled history: an elusive and violent father.

My Detective is a story of obsession set against vengeance and prayers of forgiveness in a city that is as cruel as it is fantastical. It captures modern Los Angeles in real time, an eerie glide through the imagination, where winds gust high above the San Gabriel Mountains and neighborhoods stretch toward the ocean like the flash and tremor of a dream. The novel speaks to our sense of beauty in a new century and the demons we rouse when we dare to create a new metropolis.

Storyline is good, reminds me of the old time detective shows. Would definitely recommend! Yes it has political views of a sort in it, but to me doesn't distract from the storyline. I could see the two characters being a couple but there is still two more books to read to find out what happens next

Very good

This is a very complete thriller and morality play. Two good characters and lots to think about. Most readers will enjoy it, imho.

For what it is

Was interested but the cursing turned me off. I can’t abide the use of the Lord’s name in vain. This is less of a review and more of a flag for listeners who don’t want to run in to that.

It’s me! GD Blues

I was a little surprised at how the story turned, but then again, somewhat predictable. the narration was good

I enjoyed the book very much. Until chapter, I think 16. At that point I could not finish the book. Because of one sided political bashing.
I liked the detective and devious killer.

Keep one sided politics bashing out.

Probably the best character development novel I’ve ever read. The plot and storyline were very good as well. I highly recommend this book!

Engaging from the first minutes of the read, great character & story development, left me wanting more.

My new favorite!

I dislike Ferrone's voice so much I almost didn't choose this series. But since it was included in my membership I'm trying it.
Emily Woo Zeller should have done the whole series.
Like Natalie Ross she can do decent male roles; Ferrone makes everyone sound alike.
He is why I gave up on Lucas Davenport series.

Interesting story, uneven narration

Books was good, but not great. All the complaints about politics are not warrented. Loved the politics, fit perfectly into story, especially with all that is going on right now. Overall interesting story, will read next installment, but not too crazy about narration.

Politics relevant

I enjoyed this reading except for the political references which almost made me stop listening. I was pleasantly surprised by the ending.
