About this listen

Secret codes—lost landmarks—hidden clues—real locations

Before Jake’s grandfather died, he was on the trail of a centuries-old mystery. And he has entrusted that mystery to Jake, leaving behind a set of hidden codes, riddles, maps, and other clues that lead Jake and his friends on a scavenger hunt into the heart of Colorado’s wild and rugged Rocky Mountain National Park.

Through twists and turns, the mystery unfolds while Jake, Amber, and Wes learn about survival skills, natural history, integrity, character, and friendship.

Along the way, they discover they are not the only ones on this quest. An elusive shadow group is close on their heels.

This fast-paced adventure is designed to capture the imagination of even the most reluctant of young listeners. Parents looking for a delightful adventure will find it hard to pause. (Word of caution: Listeners frequently note that this is a “Please play just one more chapter” book).

If your family loves the enchanted lands of our national parks, this series will take you to hidden places and into breathtaking landscapes. If you enjoy movies like National Treasure and Uncharted or mystery adventures like the Hardy Boys and Gary Paulsen’s survival story, Hatchet, you’ll love this first installment of the National Park Mystery series.

This is a entertaining story with some outdoor education thrown in. All my children liked listening to the book.

My daughter loved this book. It’s simply a fun adventure with no agenda attached. It’s clean of language and sexual material. It’s a breath of fresh air. We can’t wait to get to the next book!

Such a Great CLEAN Story

We're listening to this audiobook series as part of a Survival Unit Study...I love how little facts about the parks are all throughout the book!

Great family audiobook!

We loved how the author described and explained the terrain and some of the jargon used that not everyone is familiar with. The characters felt believable. Our eight year old said he liked the mysteries and felt like they were believable—like you could do them in real life!

Great listen!

We are new to the Mystery Park series, and we have loved them! I have three children who are 11, 10 and 7, and each of them thoroughly enjoyed listening to the books. We actually bought physical copies, as well as the audio, because the library copies are hard to get.

The only thing I wish could be changed in the audio production is that there were no good pauses in between chapters. There will be a climax at the chapter's end, and then with barely a breath, the next chapter starts. It makes it hard to process what just happened at the end of a chapter.

For the book content, 10/10, we loved them!

This book engages all readers from adults to younger children!

This was a great, clean story our whole family enjoyed listening to while traveling (including my husband and myself and daughters 6-1/2 and 9). Lots of mystery, fun, excitement and kept us all interested to the very end.

Excellent!
