About this listen

This is the original 1927 story of The Tower Treasure: The Hardy Boys Book 1. Frank and Joe Hardy, brothers who are high school students, use their investigation skills to solve the mystery of the stolen treasure from the eccentric Applegates. After finally finding out who did it, the dying criminal confesses that the loot had been hidden “in the old tower.” The tower is searched in vain, but it remained for the Hardy boys to make an astonishing discovery that cleared up the mystery.

Much has changed in America since 1927. The modern reader may be delighted with the warmth and innocence of the characters, but uncomfortable with the racial, social, and sexist terms and stereotypes. As such, this book is a part of our heritage, a window into our real past.

It is so much fun to go back and listen to these stories from my childhood!!

Nostalgia

I love the idea of hearing these books, especially the original version. However, the narrator is simply awful. Absolutely terrible. I made it through two chapters and had to give up. It looks like Audible might be re-recording these with another narrator. I highly recommend checking that out instead.

Great story, beyond awful narration

Over-enunciation. I hope the reader corrects some issues in the future. Not all vocal talent is able to pull off various voices. I kept hearing Grover as one of the voices.

Great story

I'm too young to have read this original 1927 text. This is so much better than the revised edition I read in the 1980s. I can't wait for the rest of the series!

So refreshing!

what I didn't like was that money was worth a lot more back then

what stood out in the story is that all three of them were detectives.

Love the story. So glad they made audiobooks of the original text. Just really disappointed in the narrator. Did not like his voice at all.

I love listening to audiobooks especially when taking long trips or just before bed, However, this narrator was horrible. His voice is very sharp and annoying as opposed to the soothing audio display I’ve become familiar with from Audible’s Audiobooks.

Awesome Book Awful Narrator

Man, this narrator was SO hard to listen to. Nasally, inflection at totally wrong points, and so whiny.
Didn’t do the Hardy Boys justice

Narration was awful but of course I like the Hardy Boys
