About this listen

In a Washington, D.C. research lab, a brilliant scientist is attacked by his own test subjects. At Columbia University, a talented biochemist is lured out of her apartment and never seen again. In the Justice Department’s new Bioethics Committee, agent Les Mahler sees a sinister pattern emerging....

Zoe Kincaid is a petite college student whose rare genetic makeup may hold the key to a powerful medical breakthrough. When she is kidnapped, the very thing mankind has wanted since the dawn of time threatens to unleash our final destruction.

The mystery feels a little contrived at times and drama lacking, though I'm not sure if it's because of the performance or the writing. The performance is whiney at times which is grating and annoying as time goes on. I was waiting for the story to end far before it was over.

That being said, I did stick with it. The mystery was compelling enough to warrant completion, though I would have liked to know more about the main mystery character that was never revealed. Still, I think Peikoff has promise and look forward to her next novel -- and hope the narration better than this.

Fun Thriller, though lacks drama at times

Loved it

Compelling storyline, but the narration sucks. She doesn’t know how to pronounce certain words like “barrage” and flips between a NY accent, someone with a slight speech impediment, and an English accent for one of the main characters. Irritating.
Glad it wasn’t my first book with this author.

Great story, horrible narration

I almost gave this 2 stars, but I suspect my dislike was,in part, due to the narrator. She had a somewhat annoying cadence to her voice, and there were many miss pronunciations. Are there any circumstances under which “Subsequent” is pronounced with a long E?

It seemed as if the plot didn’t get interesting until halfway through the book; the first half seem to be the build up and it took too long. I also felt there were too many point of view characters.

The premise and philosophical question posed in the plot is an interesting one, but the execution of it could have been better.

The conclusion was suspenseful and satisfying.

Takes too long for plot to develop

This was a fun read and had an interesting story. I wish I had read the paper book because the narrator, or rather the editor, ruined this. She would forget to turn on or switch out of accents which was very confusing. I also wish there had been more than one person narrating because there are multiple narrators in the book and I was often playing catch up. Ultimately, the story is cute and, if it’s not under young adult, it should be YA and was cheesy in a fun way.

Cute but not a knockout

This book just couldn't grab me at all. Not even given it's synopsis. I was expecting something more from the get go and it just wasn't there for me.

Couldn't even really get through the beginning of
