About this listen

Narrated by the author.

From Richard Lyntton, international Amazon number-one best-selling author, comes an explosive new thriller featuring British journalist, veteran tank commander, and trained killer (retired) Jack Steele.

An unimaginable nuclear disaster. Thousands of lives at stake. One man can prevent it...as a global conspiracy plots his assassination. Buckle up now for this gripping, action-packed thriller of international intrigue, espionage, suspense, and deceit.

Can a reporter who hates corruption stay true to himself when lives are on the line?

Is he being set up?

Jack Steele survived the first Gulf War, Bosnia, and his time as a UN peacekeeper. As a captain and tank commander, he saw the dark side of war. Skilled in language, he speaks Russian, German, French, and Bosnian. That’s why they sent him.

Two UN officials have gone missing. They were last seen in the Tumen Triangle.

A 324-mile river that borders Russia, China, and North Korea, it’s a place few Westerners have heard of or understand. It would be a prize-winning story if he could crack it. Sometimes fate puts a person where they need to be - and then he saw the child fall beneath the ice.

When Steele rescued the boy, it was the first domino to fall.

Would it lead to North Korea launching a nuclear missile and taking the lives of thousands of innocent citizens?

You’ll love this high-octane adrenaline rush of an international action thriller with twists, turns, an impossible romance, and excruciating choices: Jack Steele must risk his marriage, his job, and his loyalty to Queen and country - if he survives. How will the puzzle fit together?

Unbelievably…..believable!

NARRATION:
The quality of this narration was excellent and I experienced no difficulties accessing or downloading the audio version to my devices. I could easily switch from my phone to my iPad and even follow along in the eBook with the spoken words being highlighted, which I found incredibly helpful when foreign words or phrases were used.

The narrator’s pleasant speaking voice and ability to add different accents to various characters, made it easy to listen to, and brings the story to life for the listener.

BOOK CONTENT:
Compelling story—once started, I listened until the end (4:30AM)!

What an opening scene! Anyone who listens to it will be “hooked” into the story, and Mr. Lyntton successfully reels us in to the conclusion!
I happened to have read the 2nd book in the series (“Hyde Park Deception”)before this book, and was glad I did, as this book refers to a few incidents in “Hyde Park”, which gives perspective into the timeline of Jack Steel’s life. As in “Hyde Park”, I found the characters and plot to be well-developed, and well paced. The descriptions of locations are realistic, reflecting the author’s actual experiencing of them. Events move along as expected, until…suddenly they don’t! There are 2 main story lines that move in parallel: Jack’s assignment in Russia, and his wife Sandy in England. The hand-off between storylines is smooth. The tension builds throughout, until there are shocking events that bring both storylines to a climax and satisfying conclusion.

. The importance of international cooperation in maintaining peace is clearly depicted. What is particularly disturbing is the sense that the covert actions of the men in key positions in various governments is not only possible, but in fact have/are happening—if not in these specific areas of international concern, in others that are just as significant. How easy it is to hoodwink the populace into believing whatever the powers-that-be want them to believe is clearly depicted in the story, uncomfortably mirroring events of the last few years, both in the US and in overtly fascist states.

A geopolitical thriller—yes, the book is that. An action-packed, adrenaline rush—ABSOLUTLEY! But, on a more thoughtful level, this is a warning to be willing to look more deeply at events than what the state wants it’s people to see. In order to prevent falling prey to propaganda being fed to the public for the benefit of those in power, we need to be willing to listen with an open mind to and read what other objective people are saying, to develop a broader and more accurate view of issues.

Suspenseful

Absolutely fantastic as always. Suspense that won’t let you go until you get to the end. Jack is in the middle of something dangerous. With the help of the Narrator, you feel a part of it.

You will not be disappointed!

As I am reading the book I thought I would listen along too and purchased the audiobook. Truly memorable action-packed political thriller
from London to Moscow to Vladivostok. I love how the author takes us to places I have never visited. You will not be disappointed. I am looking forward to Book 2 in this series.

It is rare to find an author who can successfully narrate his own book. I was wary but
Lyntton comes up with the goods - his accents are credible and even speaks fluent Russian in some passages to boot.
Enjoyed the British accent.

The story seems typical enough - a nuclear facility at risk of exploding to kingdom come. But this thriller is so much more.
Lyntton weaves a tangled web full of intrigue and excitement across the globe. American, British, Russian, and North Korean
characters are alive and well and you feel as though you might just bump into them one day! Definitely one to add to your library if you enjoy this genre.

Great Plot. Good writing, nice accent!

Really enjoyed this story! Its good storytelling winds through international intrigue, and the author / narrator not only speaks an easy-to-listen to British accent, but also perfectly fluent in Russian.
Sample it and see!

International Fast-Paced Thriller

Not only is Lyntton’s debut novel an action-packed thriller filled with plot twists and turns, but his characters are not easily classified as singularly good or evil. Were main character Jack Steele’s motives altruistic or was he seeking the glory of grabbing international headlines with his story. And what about Natasha? She kept me guessing throughout the entire plot.
So many surprises with the "turn of a page", and much attention to detail in the character’s actions and descriptions of the many international settings. Can’t wait to read the next one.

Think Ludlum and Forsythe. Don't miss this one!

This is a true international thriller - the story weaves from London to Moscow to Vladivostok to Pyongyang and it's a thrilling ride! I always love to hear the narrator narrate. LYNTTON does a great job (you would hope and expect) but what I love most is his (the narrator) ability to give us all the different characters and languages - English, American, Russian and Korean. Definitely don't miss this one!

Please write faster, Mr. Lyntton!

I was hooked within the first five minutes of listening. As others have said, the languages and accents, the author/narrator's intonation, his knowing what to rush through, when to pause, etc., increases enjoyment of this fast-paced story! The story itself was fascinating, and made me long for more. Alas, I'm now halfway through "Hyde Park Deception", also a fine story, and that's it. Mr. Lyntton, in the name of all that is good, please write faster!
