Publisher's summary

An Amazon Charts, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal bestseller.

A pulse-pounding thriller of espionage, spy games, and treachery by the New York Times bestselling author of the Tracy Crosswhite Series.

Former CIA case officer Charles Jenkins is a man at a crossroads: in his early sixties, he has a family, a new baby on the way, and a security consulting business on the brink of bankruptcy. Then his former bureau chief shows up at his house with a risky new assignment: travel undercover to Moscow and locate a Russian agent believed to be killing members of a clandestine US spy cell known as the seven sisters.

Desperate for money, Jenkins agrees to the mission and heads to the Russian capital. But when he finds the mastermind agent behind the assassinations - the so-called eighth sister - she is not who or what he was led to believe. Then again, neither is anyone else in this deadly game of cat and mouse.

Pursued by a dogged Russian intelligence officer, Jenkins executes a daring escape across the Black Sea, only to find himself abandoned by the agency he serves. With his family and freedom at risk, Jenkins is in the fight of his life - against his own country.

Entertaining

I liked it. I've been on a Robert Dugoni spree in the last few months. Gotta love a spy story. I especially enjoyed the mentioning of Gorky Park by Martin Cruz Smith, I book/series I really enjoy as well.

And although I love Ballerini's performance, it doesn't seem he actually speaks decent Russian. I won't say none at all but still.

Engaging, but concern about realism

Part One - addresses undercover work in Russia. Well plotted and captivating. - worth 5 stars

Part Two - legal thriller. Very engaging, but hard to believe this situation would ever have been brought to trial. - cut to 3 stars.

Narrator was excellent. Excellent with different accents and tonalities.

Wow!!!

I was never a book reader but love good tv shows and movies. This is the first book I decided to listen to on my long car rides to work and wow was it good! I'm so hooked and cannot wait for the next book to be released! This is just perfect on every aspect. I just wish the 1st half of the book was longer and the 2nd half of the book to be shorter.

Fantastic

New author. Thoroughly enjoyed. Of course one has to give poetic license. Held my interest for the entire book. Look forward to another audiobook by Mr Dugoni.

Unique spy story!

I found the story was a great fusion of espionage that featured a “one step ahead of the bad guys” suspense genre along with an intriguing peak inside the new Russian culture. Very well written and enjoyable!

Two books for the price of one.

First, action - then courtroom drama. Both written in a manner to keep you turning the page.

Great story - went on too long

A great story with enough twists and turns to keep the listener engaged - The 'ending' went on for too long - I won't give anything away but some of the closing, could have been eliminated - the very end, is excellent!

Great story!

I almost gave up on this audio book. It took awhile for the book (about 5 hours) for me to fully get into it. Give it a chance! The books ends great-just a slow start!
