About this listen

The thrilling novel that launched #1 New York Times bestseller Jeffrey Archer's career, Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less.

THE SWINDLE IS INGENIOUS

The conned: an Oxford don, a revered society physician, a chic French art dealer, and a charming English lord. They have one thing in common. Overnight, each novice investor lost his life's fortune to one man. The con: Harvey Metcalfe. A brilliant, self-made guru of deceit. A very dangerous individual. And now, a hunted man.

SO IS THE REVENGE

With nothing left to lose, four strangers are about to come together—each expert in their own field. Their plan: find Harvey, shadow him, trap him, and penny-for-penny, destroy him. From the luxurious casinos of Monte Carlo to the high-stakes windows at Ascot to the bustling streets of Wall Street to fashionable London galleries, their own ingenious game has begun.

It's called revenge—and they were taught by a master.

Lite & entertaining

I thought this was a great story. It was witty and laughable and the ending was wonderfully unexpected.

Dated, but entertaining

Good premise, but Archer before his prime. It feels dated. Would make a good screenplay.

The best and the cleverest....

Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less is clever, funny, audacious and a great read from start to finish! This book is the epitome of the Spanish phrase "Revenge is a dish best eaten cold" especially as we've all met people we'd like to do this to. While not a true story - it stems from Archer's first public brush with a serious problem - bankruptcy - and if I recall correctly, NPMNPL not only helped put him on a sound financial footing, it was the start of his writing career. For a witty, amusing read - perfect for a plane, or an afternoon when you really want to be somewhere else - Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less will take you there.

I am never disappointed by a Jeffrey Archer book

I found the plot of this book to be enthralling. Jeffrey Archer's range of storytelling is phenomenal. Once I start any of his books, I have difficulty stopping before I reach the end... Martin Jarvis was stellar, as always, with the narration.

the entire book was not read

I chose this book by Jeffrey Archer because my husband read it (turned the pages) and enjoyed it so I also enjoyed it, but was disappointed when I discovered the entire book was NOT READ. There is a little over a chapter that is completely missing I assume it is because they interviewed the author and decided to just quit early When I read the REAL ending I was disappoointed They really got all but $1.24 NOT the $101.24 where the reader stos reading.

Extremely boring

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I really enjoyed Kane & Abel, but was really disappointed with this title

What was most disappointing about Jeffrey Archer’s story?

He does not get to grab the attention of the reader. Contrary to other titles by Jeffrey Archer, this is a waste of money

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The performance was OK

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Not at all

Any additional comments?

Wish I could change it on the website, not having to make a phone call from Mexico to the U.S.
